Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Most I would spend on a rod now is around $250. I spent over $500 dollar one time on a rod and I didnt think it was that much better or sensitive than the $250-$270 price range.

Hard to say. I'm building my own rods. How to measure price for work? If parts cost ~300$, what's price of finished rod?

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I've been leaning that way too. I am about half and half, custom to factory. I really enjoy my customs. I built a couple of BFS rods, a jig rod and a flipping rod. My favorite rods besides my Steez Fle X Lite. I haven't tried out my latest creation yet (punch rod). I only tested in the living room.MardukFIN wrote:Hard to say. I'm building my own rods. Customs are pretty good bang for your buck for a rod that is usually light and just the way you want it.

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
my current collection ranges from a few Avids ($150) to a LWL at US retail ($700) with most of the rods being NRX and the old GLX MBRs and BCRs.
$350 is comfortable for me to spend on a rod, especially if it has a lifetime replacement plan. NRX has to be on sale. I have no problem buying another $300 MB rod from the XX line.

+1......i remember i had the plan to by nrx rods when i stepped into a tackle shop. I ended up handling the phase 3 nautilus and never looked back. Could have had 2 NRX rods but went with what made me smile the biggest

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I've owned $300 rods and $300 reels, and in my opinion, the best " bang for your buck" is in the $100-150 range for rods and for reels.
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I really like to keep my rods around the 300-600 range. But wont hesitate to spend more if the monkey goes crazy. I do have ceiling of 1000$. But most high end bass rods that aren't 'custom/made to order", rarely hit over the 1K mark.
Id like to go custom, but neither have the inclination or time to do so at this time.

You get what you paid for....

St. Croix Legend Tournament rods are my first choice.
Avids for cranking.
Exceptional build quality, and they've never disappointed on performance for the specific techniques.
Lifetime warranty.

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I try to target the 300 range, looking for deals and closeouts on vetted performers that were formally much more expensive. I initially filled my stable with cheaper available stuff like Quantum, then slowly started to isolate techniques that I really leaned on and then what I valued in that setup. It took me nearly 10 years, but I am really comfortable with the lineup I have, even maintenance wise, for a long while. The only scare is replacing those rare gems down the road! I hate the thought of breaking any of them, they are like old friends. I have many old greenies and some of them I can identify by the memories of the pigs I caught on them
Set hard and set often

Well I have a Destroyer phase 3 Elseil, a 2016 Super Destroyer on the way and multiple XX rods, I probably wouldn't buy anything higher than 600 but I have been hunting for an arms

The most I've spent is just under 200, for a used rod retailed at close to 400. Seems like I'm willing to pay a little more for my reels than anything. I use all Denali rods and for lower to mid price range, I love em. Now I know if I got to use a MB rod all day, besides the few times I've handled them, then who knows..lol

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
my range has actually dropped over the years due to the fact that cheaper gear is just much better now. i chose the 150-200 range, but only because i picked up a rod for 160 around xmas.
i really think the 100-150 range is the sweet spot nowdays.
