carrying spare baitcaster spools
Does anyone carry spare baitcaster spools with different size/type line with them when you go fishing, so you can swap them on the water?
I used to do this with both spinners and baitcasters, but today's baitcaster spools are so light and thin walled, I'm afraid to try.

Usually I carry extra reels ! When I look at the price of spool vs reel I often prefer to put my money on another combo. But I have a few spare spool, and when I carry them I put them in a round plastic pill container.

The spare spool comes in handy at times, keep one in the plastic pill bottle just in case.

They have spool cases
Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
I have found the pill bottle to be the best option
Some of mine are lined with styrofoam
My aftermarket spools that come in the spool protector I keep at home but for travel and fishing the pill bottles offer more peace of mind

I have spare spools but use them to switch between FC and braid. I make the change in the house or hotel room; not on the water
Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
Pill bottle wrapped in craft felt (spooled wrapped) is hard to beat. Pill bottles can be smashed though so be careful. A Bass Mafia box is pretty tough, they should protect it all well.

That's why most of my reels are 34 mm Daiwas. Comes in handy when bank fishing with only 2 multi talented rods.

Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
Just did that this weekend. Put a 1016 spool with braid in my Zillion SV because I was going to throw a frog on that setup. I usually run FC on the SV spool for jigs.Hogsticker2 wrote:That's why most of my reels are 34 mm Daiwas. Comes in handy when bank fishing with only 2 multi talented rods.
Came in handy that the spools were interchangeable but I wouldnt buy a spool just for that purpose

Usually buy reels on ebay for cheap that are beat up on the frames and plates. I tear them down and use them for parts, but the spools are always in good condition. I will save them and either sell them, or use them as an extra with different line when traveling and have to keep the amount of stuff to a minimum.

Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
I guess it wouldn't hurt to have extra spools with you due to some unforeseen circumstances. Never know what you'll run in to sometimes and it may come in handy if you blow up a baitcaster spool and don't wanna pick it out.
Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
I would use pill bottles, the plastic spool cases are soft, I would rather have the hard pill bottles.
Re: carrying spare baitcaster spools
I always carry spare spools. This is the best option with the foam insert: you can fit two Daiwa or Shimano spools in one and separate them with another foam insert.
