13 Omen Black 2 H?

Post by LgMouthGambler » Fri Oct 13, 2017 7:47 am

Anybody use one for flipping/punching? How do you like it? Was thinking of one to try for a cheap punch rod for 1-1.5oz tungsten to punch mats.

I think they're decent rods in terms of sensitivity for the price point. However, their quality control is a little off. I always pick them up in the store because I'm tempted to try one, but the guides are often not straight and there are epoxy overruns in places. That said, I haven't picked up any of the heavy powered sticks. I'd kick the tires on the 7'1", though.

I followed a post on BBC about terrible QC and lacking customer service from 13 fishing. It’s made me leery and I own 4 of their rods from Omen to Envy series. Based on their lack of follow up I would consider other options.

No experience with the H powered omens, but I will say the step up from the 6'10 M omen to 7'1 MH omen was pretty drastic. The blank is much bigger and bulkier, and the rod just generally feels clubby to me. Not my finest purchase, but I'm sure I'll figure somewhere to use it at some point.

I REALLY like my 7'6" MH Omen Black for punching. Super stout (no idea how they call that a MH) but still has some tip to it.
I regularly punch w/ 1.25oz tungsten and a double wide beaver, so easily 1.6oz of weight, and the rod doesn't feel overmatched on this technique at all. (Mind you, that much weight isn't getting casted, it's being flipped about 6' from the boat).
