Tackle Your Enthusiasm with Shimano's Metanium MGL
Introduction: When Shimano USA introduced the 2013 Metanium to the North American bass fishing market in 2014, we hailed it as a “welcome back” to the brand that co-defined high performance and refinement in a low profile baitcasting reel for nearly two decades prior. Most anglers in North America assumed the Metanium was a brand new reel not realizing that the product line had been a mainstay in the JDM market for years. The Metanium has always been the JDM counterpart to the USDM Chronarch evolving into an Mg only offering roughly ten years ago.

Met MGL review missing a few features...
Just looked at the Met. MGL review and noticed Cal didn't mention a few things
1. IPT on the Spec. sheet looks to be from the slower Chronarch MGL
2. Bearing added on the (Handle Side) drive shaft to support gear alignment
3. Spool weight increase due to handle side bearing being moved from frame to spool shaft
4. Silent tune on spool
5. 6.2 ounce reported weight does match Shimano USA web site Spec.
Not being critical I don't know how you guys keep track of all the features from all the brands that you do! Love the reviews keep up the good work.
PS: I like the Silver color!

The color will grow on you, I love it...
Also the spool weight increase is because of the added bearing.

YES!
I also think the handle side sideplate is made of aluminum not ci4?

With such high marks I'm surprised no Editors Choice award?
Wonderful reel nonetheless. I enjoy mine.

Thanks for the Christmas Present Cal
This reel is nearing but just short of perfection. 4 gaps from perfection to me
1- removing the spool bearing to service the reel is complicated/delicate
2- Color is just OK to me and I'm not picky about reel color
3- That the Chronarch comes with a 90mm handle on the HG model makes the Met with the short handle not ok
4- A brass drive gear; though my 13 and 16 mets not having any problems.
if anything I don't think Cal gives it an award because so many of us own it and know it is incredible.

The handle side-side plate is Magnesium. The palm side plate is CI4+.
Our website does show the weight as 6.2 ounces.
