10.82# at Clear Lake, CA

Post by DrPerf » Mon Oct 08, 2018 12:38 pm

I set a new personal best at the 2018 Triton Boat Owners Tournament West, held this past weekend (6-7 October) on Clear Lake. After a very slow morning, with only two small fish in the boat at noon, I missed on a 3-4lb LMB :crying: . We then moved to the second spot we located during Thu/Fri pre-fishing. It had multiple boats on it earlier, so we had initially passed it and moved to our first and third spots.

Immediately after setting up, I hooked up two good fish and they both got off at the boat ](*,) . Went right back at the same location and boated either those two or two clones. A few minutes later, I had a "soft bite" and then my rod "kicked over" hard and I knew it would be good fish. When I couldn't initially move the fish and it started going "where it wanted to go" I knew it was a darn good fish  .

As we got the fish to the boat and it "flashed" to the top, the sunlight gave the body a golden hue and I thought, "Oh crap! This might be a carp!". Then it rolled and we saw the "green" and knew it was a bass. Got the "big momma" in the boat and started screaming like school kids \:D/ ! Tournament officials and Clear Lake folks said that it was the largest bass caught in tournaments at Clear Lake this year :D

Ended up in 8th place and if we had boated the three fish I missed, we would have finished at least in 2nd place. In any case, it was a day to remember.

Clear Lake is an amazing bass fishery. My club's October tournament will be there at the end of the month. Our June tournament was there and I pulled "big fish" for day 2 at 6+ lbs., now this weekend, so hopefully I can continue the "streak".

Equipment used:
-G. Loomis NRX 902S JWR spinning rod
-Shimano Stella 3000FE (purchased from the "Dark Lord")
-18# Daiwa Samurai Braid
-12# Seaguar Fluoro Premier leader
-1/0 Trokar Drop Shot hook (but was not fishing a drop shot) :big grin:

Great fish! That is especially big considering that the weights have been down since last summer’s fish kill.

Awesome!
For many around the world, that’s a once in a lifetime fish. The fact you got a big fish win in a tournament with it makes it that much sweeter!

Nice fish, man! =D> =D> =D>
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
