Man, I'm 6'2" and I feel small to all the 6'6" and taller guys here that can use 7' rods for jerkbaits. I know you guys ain't sideways jerkin because we all know that a jerkbait loses about 1' of depth for every 4' it dives when you do that.

Re: Jerkbait rod
Oh did they now? I may have to try and buy one. The action on the 701 is perfect IMO, and if it were a couple inches shorter it would be perfect!poisonokie wrote:I bet that is an awesome rod. I think Randy Howell's 701MLRB would be great for 110's and Jr's, too. If I found one, I'd probably get it. They also came out with a 691MLRB I think towards the end of the run for that series.sarcazmo wrote:Tatula 701MRB. That + Shadow rap deep has caught me a ton of fish.

Re: Jerkbait rod
I’m 5’11 and use a 7’ rod. Usually a few guys in these threads that fish even longer rods. I twitch at any level needed to achieve the proper depth. After wade fishing for years, where you can’t possibly use a downward rod movement, you learn there’s other ways to do things that work perfectly. Super shallow, I twitch with the rod tip up. Any deeper and it’s downward but always to the side. Kind of like controlling a crankbait depth with tip up vs. down.smalljaw wrote:Man, I'm 6'2" and I feel small to all the 6'6" and taller guys here that can use 7' rods for jerkbaits. Re: Jerkbait rod
My former GLX MBR 783 I had 3” taken off the butt because at the time I like rods shorter than 6-6 (I’m 5-10) but recently broke the tip on a smallie outing, so I started using a 6-6 and I’m perfectly fine with that now. I love the GLX 783 for Vision 110+1’s and Lucky Craft’s deeper models and just bought a Steez 6-5 ML Flex-E-Lite for regular Visions and sub 100mm baitsReservoir wrote:GLX 843 mbr

Re: Jerkbait rod
I was so skeptical about that rod. But after fishing with it for a while I fell in love with it. And one day I ended up finding an older GLX843 mbr and now that is my go to, stay on my truck rod hahaha.Heddonfrog wrote:My man, as do I. I do plan on adding a 783 if I could find one.
Also, I know this is off subject. But these models that heddonfrog and I mention. Are also good for top water, like spooks, poppers, smaller wake baits like the pompadour.
They work pretty well for me when I’m fishing too water for striped bass

Re: Jerkbait rod
If you liked the 843 GLX for treble baits(topwater, jerkbaits), I think you would love the NRX version. Same great versatile action with a softer tip that’s awesome for those heavier baits. I even throw a lot of mid depth cranks and lipless on it.

Here’s a pretty good deal on a GLX MBR783.Reservoir wrote:I was so skeptical about that rod. But after fishing with it for a while I fell in love with it. And one day I ended up finding an older GLX843 mbr and now that is my go to, stay on my truck rod hahaha

what kind of boxes are those?389Maverick wrote:That's the one rod question that always comes up, and to which everyone will have a different opinion/response.
Jerkbait fishing will differ greatly from one angler to the next, I'm surprised no one suggested a spinning rod yet.
But since you asked, Jota Slant Bridge for myself.
Nice gear Sir.

Dobyns 685cb is another one I use a lot.
Get your kids hooked on fishing, and they'll never have any money for drugs or alcohol.
Re: Jerkbait rod
Not a big fan of anything over 6.8". Even 6.10" i feel like my lure is no connected enough to my arm to feel the slashing of the lure as best as possible. No idea how some of you are using 7'+ rods for jerkbaits

Re: Jerkbait rod
The kind where you take out 1 jerkbait and 27 more come up with it and you spend 3hrs of a fishing day untangling baits. You can get the exact same shape and function using cookie tins at Dollar General for a buck. They even have Christmas themes on themgoldrod wrote:what kind of boxes are those?389Maverick wrote:That's the one rod question that always comes up, and to which everyone will have a different opinion/response.

Re: Jerkbait rod
I have a '16 mbr783 and the butt-length is my only complaint with it. I would gladly trade 2" of butt for 2" more tip.Heddonfrog wrote:My former GLX MBR 783 I had 3” taken off the butt because at the time I like rods shorter than 6-6 (I’m 5-10) but recently broke the tip on a smallie outing, so I started using a 6-6 and I’m perfectly fine with that now.
