Daiwa Steez 103HL breakdown hot sauce replacement?

Post by DetroitBassN » Tue Jan 22, 2019 1:23 pm

Hey have a JDM Daiwa Steez 103HL that I want to break down regrease and re oil. It’s been two years and has hot sauce on it. What’s the best grease and oil out there to replace the hot sauce with? I use the Daiwa red on my spool bearings.

Superlube is a great all round grease and the Daiwa oil is good too. If you want, TSI321 is another oil option.

Daiwa blue is good stuff. TW usually has it in stock. Superlube is decent and you can usually find it locally at hardware stores.

Keep that Hot Sauce junk away from your reels.

Definitely. I'm a Tabasco man myself, but that Quantum tastes like crap! It's not even hot!
This is the way.

Careful, Hot Sauce will permanently stain a magnesium-framed reel. They don't play well together.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Always hated "Hot Sauce", I mean is it even a legitimate option for reel lubricant?

Picked up a second hander Chronarch 50e and its last service at a tackle shop it must've got a slathering of that crap...

Now the parts are permanently stained...

Steer clear of it IMHO!

I will take my Stella’s apart and just pour hot sauce over them so they can have that quantum feel.

I use the following:

Cal's drag grease for the drag, gears and frame bearings
Abu silicoat for the levelwind
High quality light oil for spool and handle bearings (Daiwa, rocket fuel...)

I would've bought some of that Silicoat for my levelwinds and spool shaft ends if I would've known about it. Synchronized levelwinds need some seriously good lube and my Pro Rocket absolutely sings. I ordered some Daiwa 104 from Plat. Hopefully it's comparable.
This is the way.

The Abu is a decent trade-off between grease (retains dirt too easily) and a light oil (not enough protection) for levelwind use.
