Help me choose my first NRX please! :)

Post by freelancer27 » Wed Feb 06, 2019 8:42 am

Hi all,

I have decided to buy my first NRX and need a bit help deciding which one to go with.

I would like to use the NRX from anything like a weightless Senko, Texas rigs, 1/4oz Jig and also Jerkbaits like a Vision 110.

NRX candidates are:

* 802C JWR
* 803C JWR
* 852C JWR
* 853C JWR

I also would like the rod to work in combination with my 2018 ZBONE Medium - Heavy, 7'6 (which is rated for 1/4 - 1oz lures). I am throwing 3/8- 5/8 oz Jigs and paddle tail swimbaits on it.

I would match the NRX with 10# Fluro and the Abu MGXTREME 2.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Id get the NRX852C for all except texas rig and jigs. NRX853C If you are looking for more bottom contact.

Thanks for your reply!

So, what would the 852c be good for, if not for Texas rigs and Jigs?

Ned rig (anything with an exposed hook) and Jerks?

I use mine for tubes, bigger 1/8+ ned rig, wacky, small ball head and rhythm wave, jerkbaits, and tubes. All around one of the best smallie rods you can buy.

How do you like the Zbone?
Have you considered the 873c, I think that model has quite the following on this forum

I think the ZBONE is a great rod! Very sensitive and super light (mine is 3.7oz). The rod handles weights between 3/8-5/8 oz well, anything above and beyond I would prefer other rods.

I have a rod for lures above 5/8oz, so I am looking something that can comfortably throw 1/8 - 3/8oz lures (shakey heads, plastics, jerkbaits).

The 852C gets my vote. One versatile stick and I enjoy both of mine. In the 1/8-3/8 range there just isn't much that this rod cant do.

if you are fishing 10# line, I think you need to go 2 power. If you go to 12#, I recommend the 893. I base my rods power mostly on the line I fish. I often will toss 5/16oz rigs into vegetation with a 4 power rod.

852c is the way to go. Works perfect for senkos, light texas rigs, flukes, and jerkbaits for me. I was going back and forth on dropping this kind of cash for the rod but I pulled the trigger and can't be happier that i did.

As the others have already said, the 852c is the one you want. It's my favorite wacky rigged senko rod. I've also thrown Vision 110's on it and it handled it well.

Yep,

handled both the 852 and the 853. The 852 will be my first NRX. It is quite a bit softer than the 853 (which is too close to my ZBONE).

Just need to shop a bit around and the NRX will be mine!

Thanks all for the guidance.

852c all day, that is if you don't mind the extra length for jerkbaits. It will definitely handle 1/4 oz jigs. Extremely sensitive and versatile rod and more of a 2.5 power.
