Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS...Guide Question

Post by Walleyehawger » Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:08 am

So I am considering the 7’6” ML worth he AGS guides. I typically like to run a long fluorocarbon leader with a fine diameter braid mainline. I am a bit concerned about guide damage. I usually use the FG knot. Does anyone have any input on hide damage using a setup such as this? I know they recommend a 1 meter or less leader, warning of potential guide damage from knots.

I had the same set up and didn’t even tie the fg knot I was using double unit which is bulky compared to the fg and never had any problems or damage with the guides. I did however have the 7 hvy model casting rod which did have a cracked guide at the bottom but was tvdue to leaders I ran straight Fluor on tgat set up as far as I know I stepped on it or hit the boat the wrong wsy in rough water

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to go with it. Too hard to pass up a good deal.

Howdy TT. I bumped this thread back up, as I have been thinking about the AGS guides. How have they been holding up for everyone?

I am a non-boater, so I frequently carry my rods from our basement to my SUV. Rods can bump one-another on longer drives and, though rod sleeves are a nice thing to have, I am curious if guide breakage/cracking is an issue on these sticks.

Thanks all. 8-)

That's refreshing to know, but not what I wanted to hear.

I'm on my second year with the Steez AGS 7'6 and use 10 lb braid with a leader. The guides are fine.

I wish these guides were available for rod builders... I can understand why Daiwa wouldn’t want that though, lol.
