Conquest vs NRX
Conquest vs NRX
I used my fishing buddy's 904c Conquest, and I have to say I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on one. While it's nice my NRX's are easily more sensitive in my hands, and I mean if I'm paying that much for a rod I'm wanting it to be hypersensitive. Does anyone else feel this way that owns both? And I didn't just pick it up for a few casts...I fished it vs a GLX 853 even and found my GLX to be more sensitive both dragging the same 3/8 oz jig. Now this could be due to the fact that it's a lighter jig on a 4 power rod but to me I just don't feel the "it" factor like I do with NRX.

Re: Conquest vs NRX
I have the Conquest 842 spinning rod and to me its as sensitive as my 842 GLX.
But I do think my NRX 852 is a little bit more sensitive, but I think it has to do a lot with the action.
I also have a NRX 843 and find that it lacks a bit of sensitivity compared a lot of other blanks.

Re: Conquest vs NRX
I have the CNQ904 and the NRX894, for bottom contact the NRX is a little more sensitive, but the CNQ is way more versatile. If you want to take off that jig or worm and tie on a chatterbait, skinny dipper etc. no problem with the CNQ.
Re: Conquest vs NRX
I have nrx 894 893 854 853 I have conquests 904 903 844 843 842. Sensitivity is very close in my hand with comparable models. The conquests for the most part are lighter more balanced, more accurate, have better backbone, and are more versatile. To be honest I don’t use the nrxs much anymore and mostly use my conquests for moving baits. NRX have long been the standard in sensitivity and what most rods are compared against. Nothing wrong with them at all but the conquests are an overall improvement to me, and I don’t think I would feel more bites with one over the other.

Re: Conquest vs NRX
I just wish Gloomis/Shimano would bring back the 901 in the NRX or even a Conquest.

X3 I changed over from NRXs and don't regret it.cndbasshunter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 11:58 amI have most of both series and I agree.domthewon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 10:20 amI have nrx 894 893 854 853 I have conquests 904 903 844 843 842. Re: Conquest vs NRX
Other than sensitivity how does a Conquest 904c compare to a NRX 894jwr especially power wise. Looking for a rod to pitch and short cast soft plastics to trees and brush (1/4 to 3/8 weight + the plastic).
Re: Conquest vs NRX
There’s a good, long thread on the conquests that was started soon after they came out. You can get a good feel based on many experienced owners. I think it’s fair to say that the consensus opinion is conquests are more powerful than similarly rated nrx, which in part contributes to versatility of certain models like the 904c, for example.
Re: Conquest vs NRX
They are both great, I use both for slightly different things.
Re: Conquest vs NRX
I may pick up a 904 just to have one but 894 is golden to me. Does everything but punch and in regards to keeping big fish buttoned up has been near perfect. The 894 may not feel "multi-purpose" but punching and cranking are the only thing I have not pursued with it. This does not give the 904 much room because I'm pretty sure it is not a punching or cranking rod.
However, I do like good full rear grip and balance. This appears a conversation of aesthetics not performance

This, and discontinuing the other fast action models, is why I dumped all my NRX’s and went to St. Croix Legend Elites. I miss my NRX’s, but to be honest, the SC LE’s have better action than the NRX’s for me, for walleyes. The sensitivity and speed of the NRX’s graphite is a league of their own.BRONZEBACK32 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 2:54 pmI just wish Gloomis/Shimano would bring back the 901 in the NRX or even a Conquest.

Would you say the conquest mbr844c has more overall power than the nrx 854c?cndbasshunter wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 11:58 amI have most of both series and I agree.domthewon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 10:20 amI have nrx 894 893 854 853 I have conquests 904 903 844 843 842. Re: Conquest vs NRX
Nicer balanced, much softer tip and more backbone. I use it for skipping docks and swim jigs.
