Shimano SLX XT

Post by joekaz » Tue Apr 30, 2019 4:26 pm

Shimano Australia has a new SLX XT casting reel. It looks similar to the new MGL but without the MGL spool. Shimano fanboy REELTEST bought one . He thinks it would kill off the Tatula if it comes to the US.

It's a bit of a shame we didn't get the MGL here in Aus. Just wonder how many will pay the premium for the XT?

Painted exterior is a plus over the regular SLX though.

Very curious about this reel. I think the SLX is a great reel, and for 20 bucks more this could be worth it.

I was gonna hold out until the MGL was released but not sure now.

Supposedly 4+1 , there's a bearing supporting the main shaft above the AR bearing. Which is a good thing.

Yeah I heard him mention that whole "KILL OFF" line. Kinda made me pause and say What? for a second. He bases everything on how many yards a reel can cast. Doesn't go over anything concerning ease of casting, reliability, etc. And that fact that some people just buy certain brands no matter what. Ironic that fans don't realize fans exist for other brands too and act just as they do. Either way he isn't completely wrong and this does seem like a fair reel and the SLX line has been selling very well with few complaints that I have seen.

The 4+1 bearing count should be: 1 for the main shaft, 1 anti-reverse (main shaft), 1 pinion support, and 2 on the spool for 5 total. Not sure where the regular SLX loses one, if it is the main shaft maybe people could add the XT's bearing to help their original SLX.

Yeah the only bearing on the main shaft of the standard SLX is the AR bearing. Curado e and Citica e , were the same way.

New reel for the frog rod. Hope it holds up like the E-series. Feels super solid.

No , I'm kinda on the fence about it...I really like the idea of this XT having the extra bearing on the main shaft.
That's the main reason I got it , wasn't really for the svs Infinity , that's just a bonus.

I replaced all the bushings with bearings in mine. I was curious as to casting differences with the XT vs the OG. Lol

Probably a difference with light baits. But for what I'm doing , can't imagine any difference..
