I still mean to order a DIY spool for my original Type R, would also like to get the covered nut and lock plate to replace that silver cheap stock plastic. Been a solid reel, my first ever Daiwa.

The red nut, red screw and black lock plate on my Type R were spares from a Ray's studio carbon fiber handle. You should be able to order the nut and lock plate off Aliexpress.

Daiwa + Shimano. They play nice together. They even match each other. Same or similar metalic paint on the reel and blank. Same red on the red parts.

Nice pairing =D>

And it didn't even collapse into a black hole when you mounted that reel. Bravo!
This is the way.

Yup, none of this (I've abused this gif, but it's so applicable):

Cool. Bout time I saw something with those blue knobs. I thought they might look good on my zillion, but I got the red ones instead.
This is the way.

No they don't, I put my SS Air handle and knobs on this reel and put my SS SV Limited carbon handle on my SS Air. I run 80mm handles on BFS and 90+mm on all other reels so the SS SV Limited handle had to go, if that makes sense :-k

I'm the same way. I bought mine "used" from an eBay seller in Japan and whoever had it before barely used it, if at all, and upgraded the handle and knobs. I took it a step further and added some hedgehog parts of my own. Love that reel.

That’s a good looking reel and for me any reel with a Alphas frame is worth having and upgrading
