Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
Every once in a while I run into these wrecking balls by accident. Fishing up in 2-3’ of water throwing a jerkbait for trout and saw some small bait start skipping, so I cast a Flash Minnow right into the middle of them. Two twitches and the drag started screaming! Before I could even get to the remote to raise the PowerPole, I was completely spooled and looking at my 10 lb mono arbor knot Quick thinking saved me, as I wrapped my hand in my sleeve and then grabbed the line and held on! Finally able to let go of the rod with one hand and put the PowerPole up, we were on the move. It’s insane how hard these fish pull and just refuse to give up! After an hour long fight, I was finally able to land it....2 miles down the beach! Surprisingly, nothing was bent or broken on the lure, but the hooks were completely mangled. Front hook only had one point left, and it was straightened. Back hook had two straightened and one left that was in the corner of the mouth just barely hanging on

This is plain nuts. I’ve been thinking that a power poll on a yak would be sweet but is likely beyond my current level of skill/effort. You sir might need to level up to full helmet and pads.JBcrankaddict wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:41 pmEvery once in a while I run into these wrecking balls by accident. That’s just phenomenal. Congratulations on the catch

Might have to do that when the tarpon start moving inshore! PowerPole is tough to beat, and I feel it’s the single biggest advantage as far as accessories go on a kayak, especially in the wind. 90% of my fishing in is water less than 4’ deep, and it makes moving around and positioning on the flats sooo easy!

Found a few of these on the second day of 100* air temps, oddly enough on a 1/4 oz XCalibur rattlebait. I spent hours throwing jigs and worms into shaded pockets without so much as a peck. Average size of 16" and roughly 3 lbs. Water was bathtub warm with zero movement @ 11:30 am. The 10" crappie was just as unexpected, he hit like a freight train. That was Sunday, the last pic was the following Tuesday after a stormy Monday that broke the heat wave. She went for a shallow Shad Rap modified with an internal weight to get a little more distance and run a bit lower in the water column.

From 2 years ago. I caught this on a ned rig thrown on a Volkey 68L BFS and Silver Mica Pixy with Airy Red spool. 20# high vis Suffix Performance braid with 8# Big Game leader. It was fun.
Another odd catch. A barred Musky around maybe 40 inches at best caught on a power shaky head. A 3/8 head and Yamamoto Flappin Hog. It T-boned the bait as it came out from under a dock back towards the boat. I managed to hook it in the corner of the mouth which kept it from biting off. It bit off on the deck and then released itself.
A nice channel cat my dad caught on a Stanley spinnerbait. I think it was a vibra wedge. The blades produce a lot of thump for being willows. The bait was anhiliated but I was able to salvage those awesome blades. It has definitely got a unique feel for a double willow.
