TD Ito 103HL Stripped Drive Shaft

Post by Dave Stratos » Wed Aug 28, 2019 11:21 am

Bought a used TD Ito lefty and the drive shaft seems to be stripped. I can not get the handle nut to stay tight. I tried lock tight and it worked for a little bit but as soon as I caught a couple fish it loosened up.

Reel is in otherwise nice condition and I enjoy fishing with it.

Anyone know if any other drive shafts will work or what options I have?

Thanks
Dave

You could source a new drive shaft or do what I did. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=82211

I was looking at what you did and it looks very nice but I think it is a little out of my skill level :D

I was hoping to source a replacement one.

The old red Fuego has a similar drive shaft, just a little bit heavier

I don't know why they put those heavy drive shafts in a reel designed to be light. They did the same thing with the Sol, which was way heavier than the Alphas as a result.

It was intended to be a USDM version of the TD-Z 100M. For some reason, Daiwa used to think that US anglers wanted lots of line capacity and that we only threw lures 1/2 oz and up. They built our reels to withstand a nuclear assault. Apparently, they also thought we all fish like Ike.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Yet wasn't that particular Z dubbed the "U.S. Trail?" It baffles the mind. As far as fishing like Ike, if you mean "Never Give Up," well... I don't come home until my wife makes me.

Nah, I was talking about him getting mad and slamming his rod and reel down on the deck, basically abusing his gear. As far as the US Trail on the 100M, that just proves my point of the way they used to see us collectively, like we need 150 yds of 12# line capacity.
Btw, sorry to the OP for going off topic!

Well, when that 30# bass takes a 50 yard run at the end of your 100 yard cast, you'll be glad you had it.
