Recommend me a spinning reel
Recommend me a spinning reel
Ok, allow me to preface this by saying I am not interested in a Shimano as this is on my creek wading rod. I am looking for a $50-100 spinning reel to go on my St. Croix Eyecon 6'3" MXF with 15/4 PP S8S. My old reel was a Lew's SG300 that was $50 new. I used it for 8 years. I just got a Lew's Mach MS200 for the Eyecon, same price point, but the handle is plastic and the reel is a little geary under load. If I could stick with Lew's, that would be awesome, but if not, let me know guys.

Daiwa Revros are built like a tank and land in that price range.

this is exactly the reel I would choose . The Revros is a great reel for the price.

The Revros is a great looking reel too. It's definitely on the list.

Re: Recommend me a spinning reel
I don't have any Lews gear or recommendations, but I've got that same Eyecon and I paired it with a Pfleuger President XT 30 (about a 2500 size reel). It's a nice enough reel. I definitely get more smoothness from my Stradic Ci4+, but the PXT is pretty darn smooth for its price. I don't feel any geariness in it. I see almost no reason to spend more on a reel until you get to the ~$200 level where you can start considering the Stradic and Tatula. Though I tried a Daiwa Fuego at Cabela's this weekend and it was pretty nice, but very similar to the President XT in terms of smoothness and I believe weight as well.

I've used a Fuego 3000 for years. I would buy a 300 dollar rod instead of a better reel.
