Dobyns Xtasy power question
Dobyns Xtasy power question
Hoping few Dobyns fanboys still hang around. Looking for some input between the 3-4 power differences. Been loving my 752s so I'm going to give a casting model a try but undecided on 3 or 4 power. Off shore fishing grass flats/transitons chasing smallies around perch/smelt I have two rods rigged up with 1/2 tungsten FB jigs with finesse trailers, depth is usually 30-40fow. My go to is my MB FMJ and Daemos(vertical jigging). Its towards the end of my season and always looking to try something new before hard water. Thanks
Re: Dobyns Xtasy power question
I've fished a buddy's 753c and I think you'll want at least a 4 power if you're going to fish 1/2 ounce in deep water.

Thanks, that's what I was leaning towards. Care to give your opinion on the 753 in terms of performance?

Performance was great. Threw a bunch of stuff on it from topwater to bottom cotact to 3/8 ounce. Very crisp and light feeling in hand.

Re: Dobyns Xtasy power question
I know this will probably fall on deaf ears but if you’re fishing 1/2oz football heads in 30-40 fow you’re going to have a hard time setting the hook with even the 755. I fished my 755 with jigs in 15-20’ of water and unless I did a full on flipping hookset, the tip would just not bury the hooks...you cannot imagine how many fish I lost on that rod. I loved the balance, I loved the sensitivity but mine truly fished like a heavy MH with a tip and action that we’re just too light. So I basically had the worlds most expensive Dark Sleeper rod lol I Fished Sleepers a lot on it and believe it or not with that light tip and action, plus the full handle, it made a good glide bait rod for baits up to 2ozs. Good luck but remember my words

Thanks for the info. My MB FMJ sounds like it be slightly more powerful than the 755. Just looking for something longer is all maybe I should be looking at the NRX 894?Heddonfrog wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:07 pmI know this will probably fall on deaf ears but if you’re fishing 1/2oz football heads in 30-40 fow you’re going to have a hard time setting the hook with even the 755. Re: Dobyns Xtasy power question
Phippy, what baits/sizes and techniques do you use your 752s for? Thinking about getting one for 1/4 and occasionally 3/8 drop shot. Possibly ned rigs and light tubes. Thanks!
Re: Dobyns Xtasy power question
Mostly 1/8-3/8 jig heads. Tubes and anything finesse from swimbaits/ned rigs, you get the picture. Its a true fast action and does shut down towards the blank, for me shuts down to fast for my drop shot preference. Very impressive rod from lightness, crispness to sensitivity. Won't be disappointed.
