Certate 2500-H JDM

Post by Johnny A » Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:36 am

I'm not a big fan of "Unboxing" videos but I'm sorry I didn't with this one. First impressions are good with this one. I've gone back and forth between Daiwa Certates and Abu Revos for a while. I'm currently in the Abu phase because of a bad experience with a Certate a few years back, I can't recall whether it was the 2010 model year or the 2013 but I was NOT a happy camper.
For 2019, Daiwa really stepped up it's packaging. The reel was very protected.

The body of the reels seems to be smaller and narrower than the previous models I had (pre-2010s, 2010, 2013). The silver and cobalt contrast makes a handsome look. There isn't much drilling or decoration to the spool, very minimalist. The reel handle is also very sleek.

Yes, Japan vendor.

They don't have an anti-reverse switch anymore either.

I hate they stopped putting anti-reverse switch.
Like to use it on my reels all the time.

I was able to use the Certate today. Very smooth. Didn't catch anything with it today but a beautiful match with the MB Brigand and a underspin w/Fish Arrow trailer.

I really like what they did with the new Certate. The blue looks cool in the sun. I had a few rods made for my kids that have a perfect match on the thread. The I-shape knob is a must. I make sure that all of my 2500 size spinners have them. Daiwa needs to take the last step and get rid of the remaining gold on the Certate. These are a great value when you buy them JDM. I'm trying not to buy one because I really don't need it, but I have a custom rod in the works that is beckoning. It's hard to fish the the slow 4.8 ratio on my 2500 Sol's once you have fished the 5+ ratios. Daiwa got it right with this reel.

The gold on the Certate is the titanium nitride spool lip, which is a good thing.
The gold also matches very well with a Megabass Destoryer rod :big grin:

That doesn't mean that Daiwa can't use another material for the spool lip. My Ignis Type-R's don't have that cheesy gold lip. That is one of the reasons that I like them. It is so nice to look down at the Ignis on my custom's with no gold labels on the rod or gold spool lip on the reel. No durability issues with the spool lip either.

I agree on the gold matching the Destroyer series, the new Exist SLP Works has gold parts on it, but boy is it 'spensive! The former Exist (18') matches the Orochi XX series better as it has no gold on it.
