JDM Ice rods

Post by BRONZEBACK32 » Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:51 pm

Is there any sites that carry JDM ice rods or any company that makes them????

I would love a Major craft, Deps, Evergreen, Tenryu, Nories, Gan Craft....etc

I saw a few JDM ice rods about 10 years ago in an issue of “Basser” magazine. They were nothing to write home about. The fish through shanties half the size of a mobile home.

If you're just interested in custom/bespoke ice rods, take a look at Tuned Up Custom Rods and Thorne Bros. There isn't the Japanese magic about them, but they're solid rods that are just how you want them. They do get their own special blanks made, I believe.

Nice combo! Maybe a little too high end on the reel for ice fishing... only because I wouldn't want to subject it to those temperatures.

I mean it gets to -10F here, even lower, and I don't have a shack to ice fish in. Water freezing on my line is already going to be an issue. I expect that repeated exposure to ice and cold temps could cause problems internally if any water gets in. And I also expect that I'd want to disassemble the reel and use cold weather grease, specifically. I just think super cold temps are tough on most things, especially things with a lot of moving parts with metal that will shrink.

A high end reel doesn't have anymore parts than a mid or low end reel. I use a mid range combo and its worked well for me.

I hear ya, I just wouldn't be happy if the extreme cold and potential internal ice damaged a $200 reel.

It will be fine...I use 1000 Stradics and Sustains for ice fishing. It's just a preference.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

The TUCR rods are nice, I have fusion its the bees knees.
St Croix has some pretty sweet ice rods, I did the tour recently and was very impressed with their new Croix Custom Ice lineup. If I was going for another high end ice rod, that would be it.

I just got a Fusion. What baits are you using with it? It seems like the slower action makes it harder to make small twitches to anything heavier than 1/16oz.

I got a couple of St Croix Custom Ice rods and a black ice which has the best spring bobber I have ever used.

I have the medium 28 inch, It seems like a good all round stick. Try the kenders k-rip 1/16 oz
