New 2020 Shimano Metanium

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Here's the source: https://kenshikuroda.com/tackleno_iroha/12616/

STOKED! Brass gears baby!!

Translated: "In summary: It has the same rigidity as the bantam (core solid body), the same flight distance as Antares, the cast feel (MGLⅢ spool), and the same winding comfort as the calcutta (brass gear). Still light. It is a reel that puts it all."

Yup. I need one.

175g, same as the current Metanium. It looks smaller than the current Metanium to me.

Look at that frame shot next to the Bantam, it’s tiny! Much more compact than the Met MGL too.

That met is going to be pretty close to 70/aldebaran size. Tiny tiny tiny.

It definitely looks more compact than the previous model Met.

Spool also looks narrower... wondering if it's still a 150 size.

It's a narrower spool. The article says he thinks it's the same spool as the new Antares which is only a 70 sized spool... I personally would prefer a 150 size. But I think this new Met will be a great worm/jig reel and that's probably what I'll use it for. I just need a rod that balances better with it, since even with my Bantam none of my rods balance as well as I'd like them (except my Expride 73XH, lol). Maybe a Poison Adrena is in my future. :)

That's what it's looking like... a picture is worth 1000 words!

I'm so excited for this reel.. I won't sleep until I have it in my hands. I've been looking for a new 70 Scorpion/Corrado replacement and I think i did!

I might be buying my first Shimano in a long time.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

When the Bantam came out, people complained that the line guide was too close to the spool, affecting casting distance. Looking at this new Metanium, looks like the line guide is much closer to the spool compared to the 16 Met MGL. Makes me wondering if this new Met will actually outperform our old Met mgls. Big praise for going to brass gears, but will it actually be an upgrade in performance? We'll see!
