What’s on your Reel’s Foot

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I’ve tried several things to cover my reels feet esp the Daiwa’s
What have you found to be effective in prevent foot chips

Depending on thickness and allowance of install, cut some non hermatic "non glue lined" heat shrink to the desired length and slip on and shrink away; allowing a small portion to pass the edge of the foot on both ends of the foot...

Simply slip on and off and prevent chips an you can pull them off to dry under. This is what I've done with a few reels that have those poxy Pacific aluminium reel seats for example the white Shimango Terez rods... They chip the reel feet and corrode if you leave the reel on and don't clean under them periodically.

3M helicopter tape , it comes in different thicknesses..look on ebay you can find it cheap , just make sure you are getting it from a seller that's not in China , I don't think anything is shipping from there right now.
You could also search , bicycle frame protection tape.

I'm confused, how are they chipping?

I've never had one ship...

It's caused by the rods with aluminum lockdown hoods like the og steez line, certain Abu rods and even the old Wiebe seats on Loomis rods.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

How about Steez SV/A on CI4+ reel seats like Poison Adrena or Expride? Will the Steez get scratches?

Anyone tried using hockey tape? Seems like it would work well unless it's too thick

Neither of the previous gen Adrenas I had caused any damage to a Steez or an Alphas that were on them.

This is what I do. I use a lighter to fold down the end, thickens the tip end too. I believe I used 5/8" heat shrink tubing. It's too thick to use on my Loomis rods but I use it on my Poison rods with the ci4 reel seat. My Steez SV TW still has a small paint chip on the reel foot though.

These came in the box with the Metanium MGL I bought today... Just order a load of these from Shimano if available?

Do you know what size cover fit Daiwa reel feet?

The mediums are an exact fit. However, from what I have found is that the reel feet are too thick with them on for many rods I own (NRX and GLX). They did work on a Alpha CT on a 110 Destroyer.
