Daiwa Tatula SV TW

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I picked up two gen 1 tat sv's at a great price from the 'trap (on sale plus TT discount), and dropped zpi spools in them. That's an option if the old frame is good for you. I think I have $240 in them

Can anyone share observations about how the new Tat SV casts compared to the previous? Does it cast about the same, or different in any way(s)? Thanks!

In theory, it should cast better, because the new Tat SV has a 32mm spool. The 1st gen Tat SV is 33mm.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

This may be an off topic question, but your mention of the spool differences brought it to mind.
Since spool weight has such a huge effect on reel performance, why don't the major manufacturers bring lighter spools into their factory reels? I remember when Quantum brought out their first Smoke PT Burner. It has a 10 gram spool, stock, and could cast anything from 3/16oz up. Is it just crazy expensive to make the spools lighter, or is it a matter of durability/warranty?

I've been fishing mine since it came out and have put in a lot of time with the 2017 version, which is a fantastic performing reel as well. I feel like the 2020 Tatula SV has the edge with lighter baits, and it also feels to cast at greater distances with less effort and less braking on the back end of the cast. Again, these are my preliminary observations, but I plan to spend a lot more time with this reel and am taking it out every time I go, and fishing my ponds frequently with it as well.

Are the new Tat SV reels compatible with the Elite and 100 spools?

Well that’s annoying!

Any idea when the Tat SV spools will be available?

The 2017 Tatula SV TW spools are in stock at The Tackle Trap. The 2020 spools, if they follow the typical timeframe for release, will be about 6 months give or take a little. They will be a stock item once they become available.

Cool, thanks. I have 50lb braid on my new Tat SV and I want another spool to play around with.

On a separate note I did verify that for those like me that are using the Elite Long Cast for froggin' that you will be able to purchase the Elite p&F handle if you prefer the larger handle for power techniques. I will get pricing as soon as its released and post.
Do you use the 7.1 or 8.1 for frogging?
