How you guys liking the Daiwa x8 grand?

Post by Mang » Thu Jun 18, 2020 2:53 pm

I've been using Sunline FX2 for frogging and man does it hold water. I hated that. Does the grand hold water too?

No braid known to man holds more water than x8 Grand. Absolute garbage in that department, and others too.

The YGK x8 Upgrade holds very little water.

I'm using the 30lb and haven't had issues with it holding water, granted it's in saltwater not fresh. I ordered two spools, one blue and one grey both 30lb and had to send the blue back to be replaced, it had some weird stuff going on with it. The replacement spool and the grey have been great so far, I have preferred it to Xplasma Asegai so far. I have only fished with the Xplasma Asegai once so I'm going to give it another chance.

I've been using it for the past few weeks. 30lb on a Coastal SV and 8lb on a SV Light. No issues so far. I like it.

Much different lines... i couldn't get past the heavy coating on Asegai.

My issue with the asegai has been break offs way above the leader, I haven't paid attention to the coating much but haven't fished it much either, it was a smoking deal so if it behaves like kastking I got what I paid for. I wish I hadn't committed so hard to the original jbraid x8, it makes it hard to justify buying more line to try, though the wife approves of any braid purchase as long as she thinks its for her rods since she wants 4lb test with the breaking strength of steel cable.

At least both versions of JBraid are way more affordable than Samurai! :D

Very true, I haven't tried samurai yet, there's some 300yd spools on Amazon right now for $30 that are tempting me.

Jbraid grand will definitely be replacing the Xplasma Asegai after today, however regardless of the coating, the cat greatly prefers Xplasma Asegai to jbraid.

Does YGK x8 Upgrade hold less water than Sunline xPlasma Asegai? The Asegai has been the best braid for ice-up conditions I have fished yet, a bit better than Fireline Ultra 8.

Thanks!
