my goodness the balance of these rods is absolutely fantastic. now y can't the nrx go this route?
End Balancer FTW!
Both models that I have (DS and SD), the rods balance right at the winding check/lockdown nut--as seen in the picture in this thread with any of the three reels (Met '20, Daiwa Type R, Core 100) that I've used.

I have the P5 SD and it is a med-fast action. If you are familiar with other MB rods than it fits in line with the med-fast tapers of some of their Evoluzion rods (imo). The rod is light, but has a lot of backbone.
With that slower taper... is the tip crisp and whippy enough to throw jerkbaits on this rod? (Looks a bit too heavy to be a dedicated jerkbait setup, just checking on versatility.)

How would an IP68 balance on a P5 SD?

Not sure about the IP68 but here is the balance point with an Aldeberan BFS XG (4.8oz).
Simply amazing!

The rod weighs 4.4oz. One of the websites says so and I verified with a digital scale.
It is just extremely well balanced.

Sounds about right. Lists them at 116g.
All the weights can be found here.
https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/m ... -rods.html
The SD is listed at 126g or ~4.45oz which is spot on with what my digital scale says.
Imagine the siglett at 2.78oz with the aldebaran at 4.8 as a bfs rod.. superrrr light. Lighter than many baitcasting reels alone.

Hmmmm... I haven't fished a jerkbait with it yet--I do think that it would "work" with the med-fast taper. Maybe w/the larger jerkbaits 3/4 to 1 oz. it would work well.
I plan on using the SD more soon--want to try non-frog topwaters and finally get around to pitching a jig/worm into cover, since that's what the rod is supposed to do real well.

Fwiw, I've used a Daiwa Zillion Type R (8.5 ounces) and a Shimano Core 100MG (6.1 ounces) w/the SD and both balanced right at the winding check/lockdown nut. The end balancer on these rods is a nice, understated feature, imo.

I ordered a SD from TTT
I already have the FMJ as my main jig rod and love it. Will see how the SD performs at various techniques, reading this thread has me pretty confident it’ll find a niche (and will be a good rod to take to new spots where I don’t know what to expect).

Anyone have a Phase 3 Super Destroyer to compare with this new P5 SD? Regret selling my P3SD everyday as it was an amazing punch shotting rod and dock skipping jig rod. I was going to try to find 2 of these this winter but the P5 has me interested.
I had a JDM New Destroyer Super Destroyer. Never got to fish it but handling it and pitching a jig indoors I felt this version was a lot stiffer than the P3 version. A true jig rod where the P3 had a fast action but softer tip. Almost felt like the P3 was F5.5.

Got my Super Destroyer today. Looks cool. I didn't realize that the rod has micro guides all along the blank, though. They're as small as on my K2 and seem like a poor choice on a jig rod that wants to run 50lbs braid and up to 20lbs mono leaders. My FG knot seems to go through the guides "just fine" on a cast , but I'm worried it'll affect distance.
Here are a couple of quick comparison shots between P5 SD and the FMJ. Not sure yet if I keep that white reel on the SD, can't decide if it's too tacky or kinda cool (or both).
