Favorite 15-20lb braid main line for spinning reels?

Post by oops » Sun Sep 27, 2020 1:00 pm

I have literally 1 spinning setup for bass that has had the same spool of I think 20lb 832 on it from when I bought the reel from a dude on another forum like 4 years ago. Despite buying an NRX 822SYR, I rarely use the setup, but I got my gf into fishing recently and that's what she's been using. The line has lost all its color and catches on the spool more than it did back when it was new. Curious what the fan favorites here are.

Considering the line held up for 4+ years just fine until recently, maybe I answered my own question and should just get some 15 or 20 832 for it lol. I use power pro on all my casting stuff 30lb+ and I like it, but I have one of my UL spinning setups with 5lb power pro and absolutely hate.

You could just flip the line on the spool and keep using it for another 4 years... :laugh1: :laugh1:

I've tried a spool of Maxima 10# in both the ultra green and high vis yellow and I really like them both. For whatever reason, the green seems to be more supple than the yellow. They both cast really well and hold leader knots well too. Their 20# is only. 009" in diameter.

Maxima braid is my favorite, but I haven't tried the lighter lb tests for some reason. The color does bleed, but that doesn't bother me.

I've been very happy with YGK SS140 (Better than average braid, but I love the markings ) and Hitena Silky Braid (high quality and better than ss140, but not cheap) on my spinning reels, but make sure you purchase both of those braids by diameter. Power Pro V2 SS has been very good as well, they fixed the issues that they were having with the first version (horrible fraying on the first version for me).

But I'd just flip the braid around like adam lancia mentioned, no need to buy expensive braid for your gf

Glad I'm not the only one who found the first generation of Super Slick to be horrible!

In all seriousness about flipping the braid around, 20# 832 will be really durable, resist wind knots well, home up really well at the leader knot junction, and will last a long time. If you're looking for hassle-free and she isn't picky like some of us (ME!), then maybe sticking with the braid that's on there and flipping it is the best way to go.

First impressions, the Yozuri 8 SEEMS to be acceptable. I’ll need a bit of time for final verdict but ...

I use a lot of Sunline Xplasma in 10lb and recently been using YGK Upgrade in 16lb.

Both are very thin for there rating, all my spinning gear gets .006" diameter braid, I don't go off of pound rating.

I've got about two years experience with the 10 lb. It's smaller than the OP wants, but the ester core gives it better slack line feel and sink. It's a little noisy, but it casts surprisingly well for a noisy line.

I like fireline ultra 8 on my spinning gear, but I use 6-10 lb.

Daiwa Morethan 12 carrier braid in 0,08mm. Extremely abrasion resistant, round, not a single complaint.

The YGK upgrade is also a bit noisy, not sure why since its one of the slickest lines I have used.

Spiderwire Smooth 8 has been very good for me, and it is very reasonably priced, also.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Counterfeit? The smallest diameter Morethan comes in 0.128mm

Bought three months ago - Gosen Samon, phenomenal line! Riser Bait 007 8.2g casts 55 meters ( the braid changes color every 25m), strong and has special coating. 0.6PE diameter - 14lb
