Braid direct to BFS Spools (other) VOTE!
Braid direct to BFS Spools (other) VOTE!
I typically use braid and backer to prevent slippage. Given the application i want to avoid creating an unbalanced spool. How many of you are tying braid direct to BFS reels?
Re: Braid direct to BFS Spools (other) VOTE!
You seem to be worried that using mono backing will create an imbalance. Why?

I miss teflon / pfte tape option.
On some reels I tie direct, some have mono backer, others pfte.

For the true BFS spools like my SS Air, tying braid directly thru the ports works best for me. For the slightly deeper Ray's spools, I use about 5-10' mono backing, then change over to braid.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Teflon tape was designed as a thread lubricant that would not be on my list to use.

I use a little piece of electrician's tape over the knot. I just weighed a piece, it came it at .08g to .1g.

Depending if the spool has ports, I will tie direct with braid.
I found myself using less braid then I used to. I mainly use FC or mono for BFS now.

Always use 2-3' of mono backer
Re: Braid direct to BFS Spools (other) VOTE!
I use same.If there's holes in spool, I lock braid to those for prevent slipping. With no holes I use mono for backing to lock.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:49 amDepending if the spool has ports, I will tie direct with braid.

Most the BFS spools I used hardly have enough room for the line I want to use more less a backing.
But personally I don't care for backing and never had any issues

Never tried it, but I'm sure some frog tape will do.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish
Re: Braid direct to BFS Spools (other) VOTE!
I always tie direct. With some of these aftermarket spools, you'll really want to avoid mono to avoid crushing the spool.

Direct. Braid with tape locking.
