Daiwa Steez ct sv or metanium 2020

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Post by jprice92 » Wed Dec 30, 2020 8:18 am

Looking for a reel to put on my nrx 893c for texas rigs and jigs, I have a met b I use for cranks and love it but I’m interested in the Steez ct. what would y’all recommend? Any other reel recommendations are welcomed as well.

Seems like the new Zillion is highly regarded. Might add that to your consideration list.

I enjoy my steez ct and my 20 metanium. If you want to throw lures from 1/8 to 1/4 oz I would go with the steez ct, spool partly filled. If 1/4 oz and above probably the metanium... Both are nice, metanium is cheaper.

Yeah that seems like an interesting reel I might have to get one whenever they come back in stock.

For an all around reel, i'd go with the Met2020 over anything currently released.

I do have the Steez CT and have fished the Metanium B very briefly.

Two different reels. Unless you only want to use the reel for short distant pitches, I would not go with the Steez CT. The spool just does not hold enough 12+ pound line for longer casts.

As stated by @Dalleinf, the reel is great for 1/8-1/4oz!

So, if it was between the two only, clearly I would vote for the Metanium.

The new Zillion sounds indeed nice. I would also recommend the Steez SV TW. I have it on the comparable ZBONE model and it works great with 12 and 14 # Fluro

I have both and the CT is a better reel, but it will never balance on the 893. You’re better off with a Bantam for that rod if you ask me. Antares should also be another option especially if you are considering spending the coin on a CT.

Yeah I took my metanium off of my other rod to try on the nrx and the balance point is a few inches front of the lock nut, it definitely feels tip heavy. I was also considering going with a heavier reel for better balance but wasn’t sure how big of a difference that would make.

I've had that rod. A steez ct won't allow for any balance and neither will a Metanium. Unfortunately, that rod is built to have a bantam on it otherwise you need a butt cap. It does seem a bit odd to have such a lightweight rod that needs an 8 oz reel to balance it 🤦‍♂️
