2021 Shimano Reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Wonder if we will see a Curado BFS? https://fishshop.shimano.com/products/curado-bfs
Here's another link from the EU site -

I hope this is not true, simply because if it is, I have to get one

The new Conquest is what I'm most excited about.
Since the last version, updated to the current SVS infinity, MGL spool, and bearing behind the pin, the things I thought made the previous Conquest needing an update. So excited to see these.

Good to see they've also moved away from the large diameter (36 mm) spool to now a 33 mm diameter spool to help with the lower cast range.

What the hell, no Scorpion MGL 70/71. The SLX BFS looks like a re painted Scorpion BFS.

After owning the Antares HG and AR and now conquest 100hg
I really love those reels however I still have three D7 and the Core 100MG
And a D5. My personal preference of them all is the Antares AR and Conquest 100HG. I don’t see how they could improve on perfection

Typical time frame is March/April for the right handed reels and May/June for left.

The MGL spool is how. The new Conquest 100 & 200 will now be MGL enabled.

The first 300 size Scorpion. That should be interesting.

I'd expect to see that normalize to somewhere under $700. For some reason, Japanese manufacturer spec prices are rarely what you see in the retail outlets. Still very expensive.

Not on the list of new bass reels...

Conquest 100/200 w/ MGL III spool
Antares DC w/ 4x8 DC, MGL III spool and some new bearing config at the base of the drive shaft
SLX BFS (no mention of MGL)
Scorpion DC - 150 size with iDC-5, MGL spool
Scorpion MD - 300 size with new SVS braking config

I had a feeling we'd see a new Scorpion DC after Jun recently had them at a very good price on Japan Tackle.
