New Steez A TW HLC

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

New Steez A TW HLC

Post by Polkfish1 » Fri Jan 22, 2021 2:42 am

That’s cool. Took a few or so years, but Daiwa decided to do something about that spool in a steez A. The spool is 36 mm and it’s a magforce Z break with the boost design. The casting video they posted on IG suggests it will bomb casts.

I’m not sure it’s out on YouTube and such yet. Here it is on IG:

Thanks!

From that Japan page:
■ MAG FORCE-Z BOOST
"BOOST SYSTEM that brings out the long-distance casting performance of MAGFORCE-Z to the limit"
MAG-Z Boost is a setting that emphasizes flight distance that maximizes the long-distance casting performance of MAGFORCE-Z. MAGFORCE-Z is not suitable for lightweight lures due to its characteristic of operating the induct rotor by centrifugal force. On the other hand, it is ideal for long-distance casting of medium- and heavy-weight lures, and the flight distance increases by the amount of input. BOOST revolution there. After avoiding the backlash zone, it instantly returns one step to achieve the maximum flight distance with a smooth trajectory from the middle of the cast to just before landing.

Hmmm...Said that Mag-Z Boost. => Two stage spring similar to sv Boost??

36mm?!?!?! If backwards compatible with with TD Zillion then this is awesome. I will definitely get one at some point.

A little shallower than I like for bombing frogs on 65# braid. TD Zillion HLC can already empty the spool on a cast and this appears shallower. Still interesting to see another 36mm platform.

Funny... i like that the spec suggests a deeper spool than the Steez LTD SV TW

Wow, I'm gonna have to re-think my next purchase. :-k

Acc. to specs this reel sounds really appealing purchase for heavy rated seatrout fishing. Or medium rating pike fishing if long casts are wanted.

(Have to think do I 'need' this more than Alphas Air.)

This reel is right up my alley, or I could just put the aftermarket spool in my fleet of TD Zillions.. 8-)

I think, it's yet not sure may New Steez A TW HLC spool fit to old OG Zillions..

But if it fit, I'm interested to try OG HLC Zillion spool to Steez A TW HLC reel (if I firstly decide to buy New Steez A TW HLC). If there would be more magnetic force / adjustment area, to make OG HLC Zillion spool usable for normal fishing.
(Currently, in my opinion, OG HLC Zillion usable only for bombarda casting, but it's good for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA5bRF_K0Oo&t=16s )

Daiwa Australia has the reel info.
That appears to be the same frame as the current Steez A, so this new 36mm spool will indeed be reverse-compatible with the Zillion, TDZ100M and OG fuego! Resurrecting a basically "dead" spool size gives me hope that they will bring back the 33mm Alphas spool and 31mm Pixy spool in some platform in the future.
