2021 Shimano Reels

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

2021 Antares DC looks very similar to 2016 model, very minor changes.

Yeah different DC system, maybe line capacity... tough to buy in at that price tag. It's like the iPhone, have to skip a couple generations for any tangible benefits.

Let’s not talk about iPhones
I’m still holding on my 8plus don’t see a need to pay 1K on a phone to answer calls when I’d rather be fishing 😂

Yeah I was hoping for an updated aldebaran or maybe a throwback color scheme just something different. Nothing intrigues me too much but maybe that’s a good thing for my wallet

Looks like a new SLX BFS is on the horizon. Clicky drag and the same type of magnetic brakes thats on the Alde BFS.

Looks like the same 4x8 DC with 4 modes and 8 settings.
Weight is identical - 220g
The NEW 4X8 digital control brake, which adds 8 dial adjustments to the 4 modes of FL (Fluoro), P (PE), NM (Nylon), and X (Extreme Longcast), makes it more versatile than the previous model. It is now possible to make precise settings that match.

The most recent generation Antares DC is equipped with i-DC5 ... the 4x8 is from a previous gen... Shimano may or may not have updated the settings but regardless, the price tag is growing increasingly difficult overlook.

I am a bit surprised there isn't a new Metanium DC as opposed to the new Scorpion DC. If I'm not mistaken the current Metanium DC came out around two years or so prior to the previous iteration of the Scorpion DC, and Japan Tackle had the Metanium DCs for a screaming deal as well around the holidays.

That’s what I wanted to see... either a Met or Bantam DC in that Core Solid frame... guess we have to wait for next year.

A Bantam DC...dude, that would be my new designated nighttime jackhammer reel. Seriously, just take my money on that one Shimano. Lol.
