Zillion sv TW 1000

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I really want to support Daiwa USA. Seems like they have listened and brought out something in the right price point and features.

I've also pounded them for not give their distribution partners much to work with in terms of pricing vs JDM and online "retailers". Seems they have done so here.

That said, I'm more inclined to order the made in Japan model and do a gear swap.

Hate to sound arrogant as I know the factory is QC controlled, but that "Made in Japan" always made the reel feel special...like a magic Japanese reel fairy.

But how do you know the reel fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer?...building model airplanes she says. Well, I'm not buying it! Next thing you know their is change missing off the dresser and your daughters knocked up. I've seen it a hundred times.

Will this reel be saltwater friendly despite the lack of crbb's or is it going to be more of a freshwater only reel like the zillion 10? I'm highly tempted to get one but want to make sure I'll be ok using it in saltwater before ordering.
Same question for me. Alot of new daiwa reels don't come with crbbs anymore. I wanted to get a Tatula elite as a burner reel but no crbbs and I only fish saltwater.

Got that now, I was a bit behind, I see where 175g for the JDM version doesn't convert to the 6.7oz US weight. You think both models will be viable? Thailand made has never bothered me...
The US version has brass gears and the Japan version has aluminum gears. That is the primary weight difference between the two. I have many Daiwa reels made in Thailand that have and continue to offer impressive performance, so it doesn't bother me either.

Over the years I've warmed up to the thai reels from daiwa. They have continuously improved to the point where I have a hard time telling the difference from a quality standpoint. The new alphas tw is a thai reel and every bit the equal of the Japan made finesse custom and alphas ct. Just as tight and refined as the japanese ones.

In reality the machines and tooling that the reels are built with will likely be identical in both the Thailand and Japan facilities, it's really just a difference in the people placing the parts in the fixtures. The Japan made reels may hold value a little bit better but the performance will most likely be indistinguishable.

They dont make 'em like that anymore, that's for sure. Chris Farley's death left a void in comedy that has yet to be filled.

But... there are CRBBs.
Both spool bearings are CRBBs.
Both pinion support bearings are CRBBs.
Both drive shaft BBs and handle knob BBs are NOT.

Just placed my order on the zillion from Japan tackle. Also picked up a Steez ct. Now hard part...waiting.

Maybe I’m being ridiculous, but the whole made in Thailand to ‘save money’ and offer a USDM at JDM price points just makes me want that ‘Made in Japan’ sticker even more.

I haven’t ordered my Zillion from japantackle yet because it doesn’t say “Made In Japan” anywhere on the description. I was going to send an email out to Jun to find out.

Several YT videos have shown the JDM being made in Japan.

I know. Jun is always very conscientious with such matters so that’s why I’m wondering about it.

Does Daiwa make a habit of putting ‘Made in Japan’ on reels that ultimately aren’t? I’m not being a jackass, I’m genuinely curious.
