Build it as a caster. True finesse spinning rods are a dime a dozen. Casters are far more exquisite. IMO

Re: NFC X-ray 6100-1 DSR
The only question I would have is average fishing depth of those techniques. Once you start dropshoting in 30'+ you are going to want a spinning rod for speed of drop and accuracy.
I myself throw a ned and texas rig dropshot in 15' or less most times.
In this case I have a ML XF casting rod, PX68R with DIY spool, 20 pound braid to 8lb flouro. It rocks and I can fish it all day with zero fear of line twist.
Meanwhile my partner is cussing at his $400+ spinning combo because line is jumping off the spool.

Well... it's not as if I don't already have a rod or two to handle those situationsRMCatchNrelease wrote: βTue Jan 26, 2021 5:15 amThe only question I would have is average fishing depth of those techniques. Casting rod it is... currently drying in the rotator... also acquired a similarly rated Point Blank Rods blank that I intend to wrap in identical fashion... components should be here next week

Cal - It sounds like you are going to do a comparison of Point Blank to the Xray. I will be very interested in your findings.
I am doing a similar comparison of the Xray SJ-765 to the Pheonix K2 TX-765H-C. Just waiting on a couple of parts.

I'm wanting to try a Point Blank so bad....
It is tough when they are $50+ more than the X-ray

The K2 will bend deeper than the X-ray. My X-ray SJ 736 has considerably more power and suffer butt than the K2 765.
It will be interesting to see your results

Re: NFC X-ray 6100-1 DSR
Cal just warning you are on a dangerous path!!!
The XRays are very good got a couple PB I gotta finish. That said I've been using my own stuff for almost 2 years now. Haven't had one break had a couple seats come loose. My fault, learning experience.
I just finished an HM rod finished at 3.4oz for a 7'6" rod to compare to a 901 NRX. That NRX is special for what I do. We will find out if I met its match. Another excellent Blank is the NFC MB 704. So many good blanks to play with so little time.
I might have to snag one of those 6100's next order. Try it out but the 721 is an excellent rod as well.

Re: NFC X-ray 6100-1 DSR
Any thoughts on sensitivity between K2 and Xray? The K2 blank has a "buzzy" good feel like an NRX. It seems to vibrate differently than the Xray. I am building the Xray MB-7108 today and then the MB-765 Neo. K2 will be soon after those.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: βSat Feb 06, 2021 10:01 pmThe K2 will bend deeper than the X-ray. These are just Covid projects for me to be honest. Something to keep my hands busy and stay creative. I'm also sanding down and painting some of my swimbaits. The difficulty with wrapping rods is the wait time for components and cost for all the parts. That annoyance is enough to keep me from going overboard.
Besides, with all the testing duties, it's usually difficult finding time to fish the rods I really want to fish anyway.

Re: NFC X-ray 6100-1 DSR
I don't really remember...didn't use them all that much this past year. Been onna panfish kick. The K2 and X-ray are both sensitive though. I also got a X-ray 7108 to build up...for like a year. I plan on cutting 4in off the butt and making it a jig rodamso4 wrote: βMon Feb 08, 2021 6:25 amAny thoughts on sensitivity between K2 and Xray? The K2 blank has a "buzzy" good feel like an NRX.
