I thought my 15 Met DC was best served for baits 3/8 oz and up. It would be nice if this new model handled baits down to 3/16 oz better.

I have the 15 met on my nrx+ 843 mbr and usually stay between 3/8 to 1/2 oz. Afraid that the 70 size spool on the new met may not have enough line capacity.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 3:03 amI thought my 15 Met DC was best served for baits 3/8 oz and up. Does anyone know if the brake adjustment slider has clicks / notches, or does it just freely slide back and forth?

Re: 2024 Metanium DC
It can hold 100 yards of 12lb line. Not sure what lb test you want to use, but that should be plenty of line for most bass fishing applications. Most of my Daiwa reels hold roughly 20 to 30 yards less, and I haven't ran into any issues. I don't really fish anything heavier than a half ounce though.
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
I'm always confused when people say that a reel isn't holding enough line. I get it with big line and big bait but what is being used for 3/8-1/2oz that you all are able to unspool the entire reel? I feel like I'm doing something wrong because I'm never even close. TEACH ME!!!
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
I have a Daiwa Zillion 50th Anniversary with Sufix Performance Braid in 65# test that is completely stock that will completely spool out a Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect frog. This is the only application that I can do it with. All my other reels have 50-70 yards on them, and I've never come close to spooling them out.Chode wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 2:30 amI'm always confused when people say that a reel isn't holding enough line. Maybe if you're bombing out a 1/2 oz football jig with 20# test? But if I'm fishing a football that deep, then I want 12-15# line...not 20.
I suppose the other consideration is if you have to retie frequently or get hung up a lot. You'll go through your spool of line QUICK.

Yea i guess. I get it if you're retieing all the time or having breakage issues but people usually talk about bombing casts so far that the FAA is calling and asking them to tone it down.godshippy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 5:39 pmI have a Daiwa Zillion 50th Anniversary with Sufix Performance Braid in 65# test that is completely stock that will completely spool out a Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect frog. The only lures I can actually bomb that far are a frog and lipless crankbait--nothing else is really aerodynamic enough for it to go THAT far.Chode wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:43 amYea i guess. Re: 2024 Metanium DC
3/4-1.5 oz Kastmasters will spool a lot of 100-150 sized reels, unless you're running an entire spool of thinner braid. The real challenge is having to crank the lure back in, but it's the best way to catch open water roaming fish on some waters.godshippy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:09 amThe only lures I can actually bomb that far are a frog and lipless crankbait--nothing else is really aerodynamic enough for it to go THAT far.Chode wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:43 amYea i guess. right?!?! that's y i'm so confused because over the yrs, i've read on multiple platforms of people wanting/needing a lot of line capacity and i've always thought to myself, what am i doing wrong?godshippy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:09 amThe only lures I can actually bomb that far are a frog and lipless crankbait--nothing else is really aerodynamic enough for it to go THAT far.Chode wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:43 amYea i guess. I can't imagine trying to get a solid hook set from 100 yards away.
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
Ordered one from The Hook Up Tackle. Will be putting it on my NRX+ 843.

I know, right? Im impressed with myself if I cast 30 yds.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 2:17 amI can't imagine trying to get a solid hook set from 100 yards away.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: 2024 Metanium DC
A couple points to think about regarding line capacity, mainly braid
1) Some lures in the 3/8-5/8oz range can really fly, and when it’s windy(20-30mph), you can quickly dump the whole spool when adding in the amount of line in the air. Might not be making 100yd. casts, but you can still have the majority of your line out with a 40yd cast. My Stiles hold around 85yds, which diminishes with use, and these reels will make a 110 fly, so it can be an issue.
2) Not everyone uses baitcasters for fish like bass that don’t have much fight or pull any drag. We routinely get redfish over 40” in 2’ of water, and they have no option but to run straight away. If you get bit on a long cast while wading, you can be in trouble very quickly. Even when they bite close they can spool you, so plenty of line capacity is a necessity for most people. I’ve had some very stressful fights with these fish when they move in and bust up my light tackle trout fishing.
100 and 150 sized spools seem perfect, as long as it’s consistent. The Stiles are 150 size and hold less line than the old 50’s, so a little more line would be good at times. Looking forward to trying one of these new Metaniums.
