Re: Megabass reels
So I have to be the grownup in this room?
For the original clear sideplate (Alphas ito AL) a lot of guys had issues with them getting brittle and cracking. Same for the clear nosepiece on that reel. I haven't heard of any issues with the later reels with clear sideplates, so it's possible that MB found a better polymer or added UV inhibitors or something along those lines.
Also possible that the later reels sold fewer copies and not as many were fished, so cracking was not a frequently reported issue. Also notable that the Rossa Alphas and the Hedgehog Custom Alphas have their sideplates mostly painted which would help reduce the UV penetration for the majority of the sideplate area.
My $0.02 FWIW

I thought the clear part was painted from the inside out so the paint wouldnt help with sunblock...
I hope thwy fixed the issue also as i see a hedgehog and a rosso in my future...

I have a Zonda that I have had since they were introduced. Has been left out for days on end in the sun and rain and is probably the most beat up reel i will ever own and have yet to have any issues with it plastic cracking.

Lord Wisecracker grudgingly acknowledges the most worthy wisecrack. If only I had thought of it, it would have been mine.Stockinger wrote:Sorry, but they can only be fished every second day...
