The Search For One : Phenix's Maxim Series 7'3" MH
Introduction: Phenix continues to not just push, but shred the envelope offering components and materials normally reserved for high end products in rod series priced for the masses. Their new Maxim bass rod series feature blanks made with a carbon rather than paper scrim - a feature that made G.Loomis GLX unique back in the day. Today we put one of these blanks to the test in our review of their Maxim series MAX-73MH casting rod.
Interesting read. I think instead of searching for the One, you should have a Battle of the sub $125.00 rods. Omen vs Veritas vs Maxim vs Daiwa Lexa vs Daiwa TD-S vs Fury vs Duckett Ghost etc. Seems this area is growing rapidly and the quality is finally starting to show up.

Don't forget the Cabelas Tourney ZX (if they had Fuji K Alconites they would win IMO) and Bass Pro Johnny Morris rods.
Interesting read. All the Phenix rod reviews state the builds are straight and clean, but I read more than a handful of posts from members suggesting quite the opposite. I'm not curious enough to find out. Sounds like a very fair stick at the price point. Can't say the same regarding the appearance.
Good read. I'm a bit disappointed to hear that the sensitivity is just average, but I suppose we can't have it all at @ $120. I do like the look of the reel seat.
just bought the 6'10mh casting rod and I have to say Iam impressed with this rods appearance,and feel. it feels light,not tip heavy at all, the blank is straight as a arrow.for the money this is one rod thats going to be hard to beat.imo
Well I reserve the right to change my mind. On the custom tip, I've been most impressed with Phenix blanks. Tapers and actions are spot up my alley.
I'm hoping they offer the Maxim blanks to custom Rod builders. My local Sportsmans warehouse is starting to stock Phenix. While I'm not a huge fan of the reel seat, the rest of the rod doesn't bug me. But, the blank felt great. Unsanded, and when I did the rub test it felt similar to my Recon. I love how you can hear these non sanded blanks. I'm seriously considering picking up the med light moderate fast for finesse. The blank is exactly what I'm looking for in an BFS stick to pair with my Scorpion yumeya. Plus it will save me about 150 bucks from the custom route. A few years ago I would have never thought the majority of my rods would be Phenix, but I ain't complaing.
