Aldebaran 2022 bfs
2022 aldebaran. Normal or xg ratio what do you think is the better option
Re: Aldebaran 2022 bfs
How do you intend to use the reel - which style of fishing?
I fish streams, cast upstream, reel moving baits back faster than the current, and therefore enjoy the high (xg) gear ratio.

Re: Aldebaran 2022 bfs
XG for me. The speed is better for me. Having the torque of the lower gear ratio with the small lures isn't as beneficial as the speed

Re: Aldebaran 2022 bfs
I prefer the XG for bottom contact lures, especially for river smallmouth.
The IPT difference is approximately 28" vs 32" on the 2022 version.

I finally was able to find a right hand version, for under $300, and just mounted it to a Poison Ultima 1611ML+. I'll be spooling some braid on it this evening

Schuuuweeet combo man!
Don't fret... Daiwa's reel covers were always superior to Shimano's which were thin IIRC. The "Abu For Life" ones are actually pretty nice as well.

Re: Aldebaran 2022 bfs
I have a 22 Poison Ultima 6'10" M on preorder. I may just have found the reel to combo with
Re: Aldebaran 2022 bfs
That rod would be too much for this reel imo, I have an Ald 50hg on a 6'10" M PG for perspective.
Finally got an order in for the Ald BFS, got it in today. Spooled it up with 8lb sniper, slapped it on a 6'10 L Ultima and cast a 1/8oz decoy nailbomb with zman trd craw(~6g) really nice in my yard. Spool seems fast. Had to keep the brakes around 4.5 with some backhand roll casts. Pitches nice. Hope to get it out one evening this week.

“Too much” because of spool capacity? Or actual reel size?Mike son wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 7:00 pmThat rod would be too much for this reel imo, I have an Ald 50hg on a 6'10" M PG for perspective.

I run a last-gen Aldebaran in my Expride 6’10” M and a Steez CT on the PG 6’10” M, but I’ve had success with a millionaire CT on the Poison Adrena 6’10” M and, finally, I’ve swapped in a Curado BFS on occasion. The smaller reels wouldn’t give me much line, but I think I’d have places for that if spool capacity was the main concern.

Spool capacity would be my only concern. If it works for you though, I can't imagine any other drawbacks.Drakestar wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 12:53 pm“Too much” because of spool capacity? There is also the option to add the Rays DIY 28mm long cast spool in the Alphas Air, Silver Creek or Gekkabijin.
