Re: Why do people fish such heavy breaking strain lines when targeting bass?

Another reason is that thin braid will dig into itself on the spool of a baitcasting reel after you set the hook on a fish. This doesn't happen all the time but, more frequently the lighter your braid is.

Re: Best rod to pair with Steez CT ?

Have mine paired on a JDM Steez Harrier Finesse is that the 7'1 mml? i'm interested in this rod That’s the one if you are looking for a high end compile X blank. These guys will have some excellent condition slightly used ones from time to time in the sub $400 range. That is how I got mine. I could...

Re: Building a new UL glassfiber rod...

Not sure how many people would be interested but a high quality fly rod builder, greywolf rods, buils UL fiberglass spinning and casting rods in 5'3", 6', and 7'. I have a 6' being built to test out. What blanks are used? I have been on the lookout for a UL BFS glass rod He says he has his own blan...

Re: bfs reel recommendations

Thanks everyone. I'll look into the air tw instead. Is the aliexpress spool similar to the roro spool? I saw hobie-wan kenobi post a good review on the roro spool. The Roro spool is the truth. It is great stock spool, don't get me wrong. I did well casting a Rapala CD01 in streams and also jigs for...

Re: bfs reel recommendations

Alphas AIR TW is very nice out of the box, and good bang for your buck. My choice for out of the box BFS goodness. The Pixy was top dog way back. Nowadays, BFS reels are super nice out of the box. Modding isn't needed but,is fun and can squeeze a little more performance from the reel. If using 4-6lb...

Re: 3rd Place Manufacturer?

Abu Garcia makes some nice JDM gear. They also seem to be the most innovative as far as those Doyo and other OEM type reels.

I always wanted to try the BF8 but, those Magtrax brakes leave me wanting more. They could be better on the BF8 but, never tried it

Re: Daiwa Alphas Air TW 2020

Be careful using mono on a BFS spool, the stretch puts consistent pressure that can cause spool deformation. I have never had an issue using mono. I do make sure I wind the line on with light pressure to prevent issues though. Fair enough, me neither, I have never tried or used it, just a rumor I h...

All these rats... The truth is we write about it all. Your focus is ...

I been on the finesse bite too much to appreciate big topwater bites. I usually either finesse or power (punch, deep crank, buzzbait).

Re: Your Path to the Dark Side ...

Reel: IDK if it counts but, the Daiwa PX Type R got me looking overseas for reels. It really opened my eyes to BFS and enthusiast tackle. This forum also fed that addiction. Rod: I don't really remember. I think the NRC 852c got me going. I could have had the Steez Fle X Lite before that but, it's i...

Re: 17 Shimano Calcutta Conquest BFS HG knocking sound

Hey Bantam1 thanks for the response! Could the tension somehow be set incorrectly even if I've fully removed the knob and reinstalled it? Like could something somehow still be "set" in the knob perhaps? Some kind redditor suggested that maybe the spool bearing pin is slipping off the pinion which s...
