Re: Crisp UL trout spinning rod recommendations
Light side of light is precisely what I'm hoping for but I'm new to JDM trout gear so hoping for the best. That XUL Gekkabijin AIR AGS must be a blast to play a fish on, what species do you target with that rod?

Re: Crisp UL trout spinning rod recommendations
Thanks for the responses, I ended up ordering a Daiwa Presso Air AGS 61L and Presso LT1000S-P reel.
Hope I don't regret going with the light instead of ultralight but some of the brook trout I catch are over 4 lbs and I could also use this setup for rainbows that occasionally top 5lbs.

Crisp UL trout spinning rod recommendations
Anyone have a recommendation for a spinning rod (JDM or USDM) for throwing 1/16 to 1/10 baits in open water for trout averaging 1 pound? I'm looking for a sensitive blank with faster recovery than my wobbly as hell St. Croix panfish series rod. I'll be primarily fishing ultralight hair jigs, trout m...

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity
Sunline is coming out with “Almight” this spring that will be 1.48 SG. Looking forward to trying that one. Their Defier D Braid is very nice and similar specific gravity to YGK SS112 (actually very slightly higher). The YGK SS140 has worked fine for me as well (it’s not wiry at all in the small siz...

Re: Have you preordered a mb p5 destroyer?
I didn't think it felt tip heavy with a steez a. Definitely less tip heavy than a NRX+ 873. Here's the balance with a steez a not much different than the curado 70. Certainly not terrible and like you say, less tip heavy than the NRX 873. The 873 I have isn’t the plus version either so a little mor...

Re: Have you preordered a mb p5 destroyer?
A local rod builder can safely remove the buttcap add a little tungsten putty and reinstall the cap. I had this done to my 7ft4 MH LEGEND ELITE, getting two other Rods done this week, a NRX+ 873CRR and a NRX+ 844MBR, I can't use the ugly balancing kits some guys use, it looks mickey moused and slop...

Re: Have you preordered a mb p5 destroyer?
Shoot, I don't have a Conquest laying around ;) Seriously though, I have found that adding a bit of weight as far back from the fulcrum as possible (rod butt) on a combo sporting a lightweight reel allows me to achieve a lighter overall combo than one balanced with a heavier reel closer to the fulcr...

Re: Have you preordered a mb p5 destroyer?
P5 FMJ fit and finish is a 10/10 as expected but:
1. Stiffer tip than anticipated
2. More tip heavy than anticipated
Ice fishing now so no on-the-water review from me anytime soon. Curado 70 mgl xg on the rod

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity
Last year my buddy turned me onto Cortland Silent Flip. It's a 16 carrier braid and super smooth and quiet going through guides. The bad thing is it only comes in two sizes 50 or 65 lb and only 100 yard spools. I have only tried the 50lb. To me, the 50lb feels closer to the 40lb in some other braid...

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity
Even the softest and worst braids will still be more sensitive than the best fluorocarbon out there, especially with slack line situations. I use 90% fluorocarbon, and only braid on spinning reels. Recently I tried some of the Berkley X9 in 6lb flame green, unbelievably thin line. I haven't used th...

Re: Have you preordered a mb p5 destroyer?
Man you are living the dream working for Megabass! It sounds like these new rods offer the versatility that I was looking for. I always loved the original FMJ but always wished it was a couple inches longer and now it is. I am also considering the Mark 56 after the Tackle Tour review. One of my fav...

Re: Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity
Thanks! When I searched this forum that was the answer I came up with too. 30lbs test is a touch light for me around wood but perhaps with it's better abrasion resistance I could get by. Not sure if Berkley FireLine Super Line and Berkley Fireline Ultra 8 are one and the same because on Tacklewareho...

Stiff/wirey braid for slack line sensitivity
Everyone claims fluoro excels in slack line sensitivity due to it's stiffness and I'm wondering if anyone can name a few of the stiffest—least supple—braided lines out there that might bridge the gap between average braid and fluoro for the purpose of enhanced slack line bite detection. Looking for ...

Re: Do Ci4 based Shimano spinning reels feel hollow?
Thanks for the replies, not palming a spinning reel is a good point. It was flex that was bothering me in the casting reels but a much more difficult to quantify feeling of hollowness. For all I know it may have even had something to do with how well or poorly the material transmits certain frequenc...
