Re: Interesting experience with the xf50

The diy spool was usable before I glued the inductor outward. I just had to be more gentle with my casting or the spool would blow up, because it was spinning so fast. I couldn't use strong, quick casts. With it being glued I can pretty much whip it around as I please with enough control. I did end ...

Re: I guess the hungrier you are ...

Good job! I love catching brim on BFS. I have some inline hooks like that with barbs, that I ordered from China on ebay, for a decent price. Think it was around 9$ for 100. Good quality hooks too.

Re: Interesting experience with the xf50

Last night I super glued the inductor in the extended position on my pixy diy spool. Today I did some casting a few min ago, in the yard , and it's so much better ! I can whip the pixy around just like the xf50 now! I'm going to do this for the tatula ct diy spool as well. Thanks for the the tip,abo...

Re: Interesting experience with the xf50

Is there any negative thing about fixing the inductor in the extended position? I may consider it,if it will give me more control, and usability with my reels, without any negative consequences to casting.

Interesting experience with the xf50

The other day,I decided to try my pixy+diy spool, on a different rod,and put one of my xf50s on the ol 4'6" micro series noodle whipper. I haven't tried the pixy on the other rod yet,but I just got done throwing some things around with the xf50 on noodle whipper, and have discovered some fun abilitie...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

How do the XF50s compare to the Tatula with DIY spool? I would think the DIY spools would be faster and cast further with their Air Brake knock off and the XF50 would be slower and more controlled with the linear mag brake making some of the hard to cast baits easier to control. Genuinely curious a...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

Bxn7-62 i don't mean to hijack thread but show us some pics of the little baits you make. balsa? Sure,I do some balsa baits. I am very fond of spinners, spoons, jigs, and topwater baits. I do plan on using a type of casting foam, which has the same density as balsa wood,to pour baits, with homemade sil...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

I’m afraid that casting with that 3’, fairly stif rod will disappoint you, even with one of the really high dollar and high tech reels. Almost all 3’ - 4’ rods are either ice fishing rods or “Crappie rods” with the idea you can “shoot docks” with a spincast reel. Generally, the nicer rods (which th...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

Man, getting into baitcasting reels by way of BFS is a no joke. The inexpensive rod I have been eyeing is the Daiwa Triforce Shorty. https://i.imgur.com/xTCef8x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gK9FKSj.jpg The low end is only 1/8oz, but for it looks like a hoot of a rod. Right now Amazon has them for ~$30 b...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

Thanks! I've looked on aliexpress and see all kinds of neat stuff. I ordered my diy spool, and pixy, through ebay though. I don't get why they can't just sell more of those BFS rods here. The ones from walmart are made in china too. It doesn't cost anymore to ship those other MIC rods here. They both...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

Thanks! I've been eyeing up other reels myself constantly. I'm planning on getting a Daiwa Tatua CT for throwing some heavier stuff, and a diy spool for it. Possibly later down the line, maybe a Scorpion BFS. I'm new to bait casting gear, and have used mostly spinning gear since I was little, and starte...

Re: Prototype topwater bait

Nice idea! I love it! I tinker around, and make little lures myself. How much does your lure weigh, and how far can it cast for you? I make some tiny topwater baits, and often add a flattened #3/0 splitshot to the bottom of my baits, for casting distances. Your lure looks like it may have plenty enough ...

Cheap local BFS rod alternatives

I got into BFS recently, and got a used pixy off ebay, which I recently upgraded with ceramic bearings, and a diy spool. I figured I would share my experience with some rods I have found local and work loading and casting light baits. Who knows, maybe someone could use one of these cheaper rods,as a b...
