Re: 2023 Metanium 100
Looks to me Shimano is just releasing the USDM spec reel in Japan and giving it a new name? US/JDM spool sizes are the same. But the US model has a slightly longer handle. But that would be hilarious if they did that, albeit not much more hilarious than releasing the same reel with a different spoo...

Re: 2023 Metanium 100
Not DC...just deeper spool it seems. Not sure why they call this one a 100 as it appears to be the exact same reel as the 150 2020.

Re: Shimano/Daiwa Price Increase
I wouldn't own most of the higher end stuff in my possession were it not for the JDM sellers, and getting things lightly used at Yahoo Japan auction. The only reel I've bought in the US for many years is the 2020 Metanium. The JDM version comes with a shorter handle that I would have had to replace ...

Re: Do you plan on buying the iPhone of reels aka the Z Limitbreaker?
No. There is no point in having a reel that you cannot unlock its full potential without the App that will only work in Japan. The reel comes locked in Standard cast mode and requires registration with the APP to unlock the other cast modes. It is stated in the specs the APP is not supported outsid...

Re: Tulala Rods
As an addendum - my concerns about the tip on that travel rod where specific to that rod, not Tulala rods in general - to flick something only a couple grams they had to make that tip section pretty thin. And being a 4 pc with the spigot in ferrule design the tip section just felt very vulnerable.

Re: Tulala Rods
I've only owned one Tulala rod - an 8 foot 4pc travel rod that was rated for "1g - 30g." Very well put together stick and surprisingly it handled most of that range pretty decently. I ended up selling it because the tip section felt somewhat "brittle" and I was afraid it would break and I would not ...

Re: Better than the average travel rod?
I've owned quite a few travel rods. In no particular order: Daiwa Ardito - cheap and gets the job done but not for finesse applications Phoenix Redeye - The 7 foot FW blank is pretty darn nice. I sold it but only because I'm doing more 4 and 5pc rods. I have several of their Redeye salt rods and the...

Re: Caldia Kix
I too was shocked when I saw that the TD-Sol (U.S. equivelent of the Caldia) was made in Thailand. The good news is that its a great reel and Thailand has a reputation for quality high end manufacturing. Manufacturing has more to do with the designers qualification process than point of manufacture ...

Re: Spinning Reels - Daiwa Sol 2500 vs Shimano Stradic 2500
I own two TD Sols (2000 and 2500). The things I like about the TD Sol that the Shimano does not have, besided feeling solid in the hand, are: *Airbail - light and built like a tank *Daiwa's twist buster system (combo of the ABS spool and line roller I think) - I have never gotten a spinning reel bir...
