Re: Thoughts on high end bfs?

I would love a few suggestion of higher end JDM (USDM is a hassle to get shipped to Sweden) offerings in production. Looking for a super sensitive rod for Jika/Free rig/link head/ned fishing for redfin perch in Europe. Fishing (often semislack/slack) 4-6lb flouro with an Aldebaran BFS reel. If posi...

Re: Bearing cleaning in ultrasonic cleaner

I use a Bearing Blaster with WD-40 Industrial Degreaser, quick and easy. I did the ultrasonic thing for some years prior, but this does just as good and is much faster.

Re: My little Swedish army, taking these to the grave

Shazam! I would never have dreamed that possible in the classic Ambassadeur format. I can see why you are so attached to these reels. They're a lot of fun. You can get every single part for them aftermarket with the exception of the side plates. Hopefully more parts become available for the thumb b...

Re: Do you still use Boca Bearings inside your reels?

I bought couple hybrid bearings from JZN store, when somebody mentioned them first a year or two ago, and really impressed with a quality. The only issue with them - you can't remove protective shields. Wish they would come with one side opened. They come out easy with an awl. I stab them until the...

Re: Do you still use Boca Bearings inside your reels?

I've found some nice ceramic hybrids on AliExpress and liked them enough to order more. I have used Boca in years past and felt they were very noisy and not worth the money. The AE bearings I've been getting are much more quiet and they spin very well. Best of all they run less than $2 each. A 10 pa...

Re: Great Hunting vs. "Huntsman"

I obtained 4 different Megabass rods (all P5’s) when bfs bit. Nice rods but might look at the Graywolf rods out of Michigan. Super nice. Shane makes very nice rods, I own a couple of them. One is a 4'10" 3-piece 2-6lb and the other is a 5'4" 2-piece 4-8lb, both fantastic rods. The 4-8 is my favorit...

Re: Smith LTD rods

I just bought another Smith Troutin'Spin, a 7'4" M 5-16g 4-10lb. i couldn't say no because Trout Shop has them for 50% off, came out to $242 after shipping. https://www.troutshop.jp/index.php?m=k&cc=0010&kc=0002&uid=53360101GJ001018 Hopefully I have it later in the week. I plan on using this on the ...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

But where there is extinction there is also opportunity. Botique brands can flourish, for those who can afford them. G-Nius Project and RAID Japan are recent start ups with bright futures. Imakatsu and Evergreen staying true to their roots. I still haven't figured out how Daiwa has changed but name...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

4. Capital companies and private equity firms have destroyed more tackle companies and ruined the fishing industry than PETA. This is the one that gets me the most. My case in point, Abu Garcia. They were the absolute best when it came to innovation, aesthetics, and build quality up until Pure Fish...

Re: Backpacks

Get a hiking backpack, seriously. All of the fishing backpacks stink unless you spend the money on a Simms, Patagonia, or Fishpond. I use an Osprey Talon 22L for day trips. It holds all of my tackle, a change of clothes, food, and water. The best part about a hiking backpack is the suspension system...

Re: Bass Fishing Not Very Popular?

Sounds awesome and very tempting...how far away from Detroit and the inner city craziness is your neck of the woods? I'm in Wyandotte which is just a few miles south of Detroit. The nearest area of Detroit to me is Southwest Detroit which tends to be nicer than say the East side or West side. The E...

Re: New to BFS

I fish BFS almost exclusively. The only times I'm not is when fishing king salmon or musky. I use it for everything else; panfish, trout, bass, steelhead, coho, and Atlantic salmon. Keep in mind that BFS isn't about fishing ultralight lures only. While the US market rod brands are still confused as ...

Re: Bass Fishing Not Very Popular?

Bass fishing is alive and well where I am in Michigan. I live just a short drive away from some of the best smallmouth fisheries in the world (Lake St Clair, Detroit River, Lake Erie). I even have an amazing smallie river close by, the Huron River which is very popular among the locals but flies und...

I bought a bunch of these over summer, they were 77 cents each at the time. They're nearly identical to the Smith Split Ring Pincette. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568046 ... pt=glo2usa

That is a heck of a build, looks like a really fun combo. How is the Graywolf working out?
I haven't fished it yet, it's a balmy 28°F out by me right now. It's supposed to be back in the 40s this weekend so I'll be dialing it all in Saturday or Sunday.
