Re: Salt Signs
Here's an AliExpress SiN bearing versus a Hedgehog Air BFS. Note how much smaller the balls are in the SiN. These can be run without oil as the races and balls are SiN and the cage is Teflon. They are noisy, but not as noisy as zirconia. I don't mind the noise one bit since the audible feedback they...

Re: Any faster worm gears for the Millionaire?
Parts are slowly arriving. The reel and rest of the parts should get here over the next couple of weeks. This will be a good one!

Re: Tuning Isuzu reel
=D> =D> That is a whole bunch of magic right there! Saltwater be damned! Thanks for telling us about your arsenal, hope to hear more. Thanks for the welcome. I will show my favorite Ambassadeur result, '77 4500C with full-BB LW race, Avail AMB4530R-EF spool. I took it a step up with full-zirconia b...

Re: Bearing cleaning in ultrasonic cleaner
I've destroyed Hedgehog Air bearings in the ultrasonic a couple of times. Now I use a Bearing Blaster, available from any place that sells RC car stuff. I use that with CRC electronic contact cleaner and they come out great.

Re: Reel Service
I run a service myself. Always a bummer opening up one that was last touched by somebody unfamiliar with the reel or lazy with their work. I've had them come in caked in lithium grease, missing parts, and people that got screwed by somebody that claimed to have cleaned the reel while they only added...

Re: Any faster worm gears for the Millionaire?
It looks like I can get the SV105SH worm from Plat, thinking I'll go that route and grab a Millionaire CT spool tension cap as well. Maybe I'll grab the SV105SH gears as well, looks like I can get those too. Dang, WOW! The 7.2:1 makes the Millionaire so much more applicable for more techs than the ...

Re: Small Ambassadeur guide for dummies?
I'll PM you where to get new old stock side plates. The Abu IAR bearings are really stout. Out of the countless Ambassadeurs I've serviced ranging from mint to beat, only one has a bad IAR bearing. That particular reel was used in the salt and put on a shelf for 20 years before it came into my shop....

Re: Millionaires Club
My turn. Millionaire Ringa SSS with a Roro MX30, Alphas pinion shaft, Millionaire CT magnet assembly, Roro bearings, drag clicker, and gear set from an Alphas Ito Ai. This is very light for a round reel at 6.4 oz. On the way is a SV Boost PE 1000 which will be better fishing the Detroit River for s...

Re: Small Ambassadeur guide for dummies?
CDL is the nomenclature for the 24k gold plated models. C which means ball bearing, and DL for deluxe, denoting the 24k gold finish. The CDLs were primarily sold in jewelry stores early in Abu's history. Functionally, they're the same as a standard 2500C. The IAR models have a longer driveshaft to a...

Re: Small Ambassadeur guide for dummies?
IAR is instant anti-reverse, non-IAR uses a ratchet anti-reverse. So here is where things get confusing, the 2500C IAR nomenclature was used for Japan market reels in gray only, in export models, it was the 2500CI. The 2500C IAR was made from '94 to '02, but at the same time, models that were instan...

Any faster worm gears for the Millionaire?
I'm building out another Millionaire but this time with a SV Boost PE 1000 and contemplating running 7.2 Alphas SV105 gears, but that would require the use of a faster worm. I know the worm for the Millionaire CT would work theoretically, but it is too short to work with the wider spool. Is the worm...

Re: Thoughts on high end bfs?
I would love a few suggestion of higher end JDM (USDM is a hassle to get shipped to Sweden) offerings in production. Looking for a super sensitive rod for Jika/Free rig/link head/ned fishing for redfin perch in Europe. Fishing (often semislack/slack) 4-6lb flouro with an Aldebaran BFS reel. If posi...

Re: Bearing cleaning in ultrasonic cleaner
I use a Bearing Blaster with WD-40 Industrial Degreaser, quick and easy. I did the ultrasonic thing for some years prior, but this does just as good and is much faster.
