Re: Kage ultralight
It seems that this rod is currently out of stock, but there are other offerings. I can vouch for the Major Craft line and specifically this Corzza model, if its the same as 2018's model that was a JDM rod. https://majorcraft-america.com/product/corzza-casting/ Look for the lightest offering, the 6'5...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives
Houndfish, if your criteria is a rod that will just work with “some” lures, I fear that you will be sorely disapointed, but worse, you’ll have wasted all the moneys you had previously spent on going down this path. Then you’d end up thinking that BF?s is a scam. If you just want to do a little, stic...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives
I’m afraid that casting with that 3’, fairly stif rod will disappoint you, even with one of the really high dollar and high tech reels. Almost all 3’ - 4’ rods are either ice fishing rods or “Crappie rods” with the idea you can “shoot docks” with a spincast reel. Generally, the nicer rods (which the...

Re: Who is using BFS casting gear for trout/panfish
Not trying to be a smart a**, but you might get more activity if you started a new thread, not everyone looks at a new post on the 4th page of an existing thread. As to any no reviews, there are some really knowledgeable people on this board who have a lot more experience with the newer BFS gear tha...

Re: Cheap local BFS rod alternatives
Ben-72: I also welcome you to the world of BFS or really UL baitcasting. I too have a modified Pixy (along with some of the “true” BFS reels) I’ve been collecting UL baitcasting tackle for nearly 35 years, and this is the best time to indulge in the practice. As to rods, the sad fact is that the vas...

Re: Good Small to Micro Cranks
Pradco, or whatever their called this year, is apparently moving some old stock, and also s9me of their last years stock as well. This has been a practice fir decades, butbth3 markdowns are apparently more drastic this year. BTW, they also bought out Arbogast 10-15 years ago, so as someone mentioned...

Re: Prototype topwater bait
Yes, the flat, rubber skirts, as made used to be made by Arbogast.
I’ve tried skirts sold on auction sites, and the rubber is really heavier than the originals.
Silicone skirts are really heavier than needed.i

Re: Prototype topwater bait
I actually don’t think for a small topwater a lot of sound isn’t all that necessary nor productive. If you want to make noise, try a hula popper, a Rebel Pop-R or if you’re brave and can find one in fishing shape an old Creek Chub Popper (I had mis-adentified the ones I use as Heddon in previous pos...

Re: Prototype topwater bait
Kinda like a soft bodied Hula Popper? I wonder for durabilities sake, if ZMan produces a tube bait? I don’t much like ZMan lures as in the past they’ve been problematic with some of my other lures, melting other soft plastics, and, even in several cases melting the finishes on some old Vintage lures ...

Re: Daiwa Tatula LT1000
The little Luvia’s are really good reels. It just seemed to me the Tatula’s were a bit larger, even though I’d bet they’re on the same basic frame, as best as I can remember.

Re: Is BFS and ultralight baitcasting the same?
Just to maybe clarify a bit, UL tackle was almost exclusively an “invention” of post WWII French and Italian anglers and was almost exclusively used not for increased sport, as catching fish with trout he lightest possible tackle, but for fishing for very scarce fishing in what were at the time marg...

Re: Japan style trout spoons
For years, I’ve been both a fly fisherman and user of other techniques, and have been reading for 40+ years about using spoons and to some degree spinners, and have noticed inconsistency in catching trout and other rivers species with the classic fladhy colors and finishes. When fishing became tough...

Re: Japan style trout spoons
BTW, don’t discount the “non-shiny” color3d spoons. As may be seen in Chris’s pics, his JDM spoons are dull brown, tan, even red/orange. I have J.dM spoons in similar colors as well as in gold, silver and much brighter reds an$ oranges, which as supposed to be more traditional colors. Fishing these ...

Re: Microcast spool vs real bfs reel
I tend to agree with the concept of a “roll” or a “flick”. However, that’s dependent upon maintaining the inertia of the cast. This may be seen by watching some of the many videos posted on YouTube showing casting in small streams. There is another suggestion that seems to be somewhat unpopular - pe...

Re: Microcast spool vs real bfs reel
Again, in my experience and opinion, it sounds as you’ve got the reel pretty well sorted out and have reasonable expectations for the rod/reel combo. Appropriate sized Spoons, spinners, jigs are all appropriate for the rod/reel combo, even some plugs appropriate for small streams, especially if your...
