100 Tuke Days

Catch 100 peacock bass in a day? How about just in the afternoon? I really have no idea how many fish we all caught, but the two young men fishing off the point (Secret Spot) caught more than 100. (using live bait and lures) The kids in the boat were hooked up to a fish every time I looked up. They ...

Re: How bad is the snakehead problem?

Banhock, Tell me more about the peacock bass. I saw them in China last year. It looks like you're fishing in the "pay to fish" ponds like they do there. I could see visiting Indo and doing some fishing. My son goes there every year to surf and fish for GT. Here in Hawaii the peacock bass are t...

Re: How bad is the snakehead problem?

Excelent eating, that's why we hardly see them around much any more.
We saw one today, but it wouldn
t bite.
Oh, just in case you do want to get rid of them.... just remind everyone they are good to eat, and the season is closed.

Alohs,
Stan

K-Bay for Big Bones

While I was away, Bob was at play..... Hey Stan, I hope your trip to Christmas was a very successful one! Just thought that I'd let you know what's been going on, here in Hawaii.......The fishing has been FANTASTIC! We are slamming fish with an average of 9 to 12lbs! Here are a couple of pics that a...

Re: How bad is the snakehead problem?

I agree, the Punji (snakeshead) have an explosive strike. Watch out for the teeth. Our bass fishermen here in Hawaii have had lots of expensive lures chewed to pieces. The best part is they taste great. Brought to Hawaii as a food fish, they are almost gone and are rarely caught because of over fish...

Tukes by the Dozen

A trout fisherman from Colorado told me they add up the total length of the "small" trout they catch. "I caught 38 inches of trout today" Well I caught 33 feet, 4 inches of peacock bass in three hours. ( 50 peacock bass x 8 inches each) Check my math! They were around any brush and log that was alon...

Re: Fish Catch Flags???

The only fish flag's I have are Marlin (blue), Yellowfin tuna (white) Mahimahi (yellow), Wahoo (orange), Aku, skipjack(green), and Shark (red) That's what we use in Hawaii. Check with local and regional fishing stores for the fish in your area. Must be someone who makes a a flag for stripers and blu...

Re: Largemouth Bass in China

I was told I would loose weight with the "strange" food and all the walking. Fat Chance. Breakfasts in the hotels were "Western Style" buffets. Lunches were 9 and 10 course Chinese Dinners. Dinner in the hotel or restaurants were even better. There was so much to eat and most everything was prepared...

Largemouth Bass in China

Our guide explained that you choose the fish you want to eat and the restaurant prepares it for you. Our menu was set.. sweet & sour carp. It's de-boned and turned inside-out. Scored, battered, and deep fried, it looks like one of those "blooming onions" from Outback. Delicious. As we entered the re...

Re: were should i go on a holiday??

Christmas Island. All the bonefish, GT, Lei, and other inshore and flats fish of all sizes you can handle. Just out side the mouth of the lagoon in water less than 60 feet we caught big GT, barracuda, 3 kinds of tuna to 80 pounds, wahoo, mahimahi, even a sailfish. All on spinning tackle and fly rods...

Kauai Papio Action

Since the cool water temperature in the lake has slowed the peacock bass action.... some of us have taken to the salt water for our fishing fix. Over on Kauai the guys have been targeting the papio (that's an ulua weighing under 10 pounds) In this case it's the bluefin trevally which the Hawaiians c...

Re: Christmas Island 2006

Good report on the Mantas Shrimp. They don't make good aquarium pets because they break the glass .... think their reflection is another shrimp and attack. Tests done on that little "hammer" thing they use to break clams and stuff (aquarium glass) equaled the force of a 22 bullet. Boy they sure are ...
