Re: Best light wire swim jig rod

I've had good results with the Dobyns Champion 733. Loads well with the lighter weight when casting. Enough tip to let the fish eat & keeps them pinned. Typically fish with braid & a 12lb - 14lb leader.

Re: Dobyns 2018 Ultra High End Rods

Sierra line was also released but I personally do not know what they are doing with it since it's questionable whether it replaces the Savvy line. No question that the Sierra line replaced the Savvy. It (Sierra series) is positioned right below the Champion. Sierra is a nice upgrade compared to the...

Yes it will :D Spent all summer throwing a 1/2oz squarebill on it. 1/2oz is the middle of the sweet spot. That range is 3/8oz - 5/8oz. It will work with lighter & heavier but that is the sweet spot range.

Re: New Flipping Rod??

This is my post from an old thread on punching sticks for the Delta. For context, the OP was asking if the DX745 would work well. The Champion 766 was also suggested as a punching stick. As others have already said, the DX795 Flip is one of the Dobyns Extreme rods. While I used to like my 766, I lov...

Re: Dobyns 741

I have heard the 742 is a bit stronger then a actual medium light compared to a 702. I would say that the DX742 fishes just barely stronger than a 'regular' 702. e.g. Champion or Sierra 702SF. Has the same tip but as you fight a fish, the extra length makes the fish work harder. The DX702 is a 1/2 ...

I've owned rods without hook keepers. I've used the Fuji, reel or zipties - they all bugged me.

Re: Best hollow body frog rod

The Champion 735 is still my favorite frog stick. Sierra 735 is pretty darn good too.

I've tried some more expensive sticks but they didn't help me catch more fish. Besides, I find it hard to pay that much for a frog stick.

Re: Cranking rod or M or MH fast rod for throwing Topwater

If I have all the rods I 'want' on the boat, I'll use my Dobyns 705CB (MH power cranking) for those lures. I can use it for poppers 3/8oz (or heavier) and smaller walking baits like the Super Spook Jr or Gunfish 95. Lighter poppers (<3.8oz), I'll drop down to the 704CB (M power cranking). Heavier wa...

Re: Dobyns DC 704CB for top water and jerkbaits

I use the 704CB for poppers (1/4 - 3/8), smaller walking baits (Gunfish 95) & jerkbaits (Pointer 78 & 100, Flashpointer 115, etc). While I use it for a fairly wide range of baits, I'd say the sweet spot is 3/8oz to 1/2oz. This is the range where the rod feels like it really loads up on the cast & is...

Re: Champion XP's vs Tatula Elites

Personally, I use the Champion or Sierra 734 for my swimjigs. Typically, I'm throwing a Coosa River style Dirty Jig in 3/8oz (with 3X hook) with a Keitech for the trailer. Seems to have the right amount of tip to let them eat & the taper/power to drive the hook home. I prefer the 735CB Glass over th...

Re: $150+- frog rod

Mark, I'm on the Delta pretty much every week. Dobyns 735 Champion is my stick of choice. Lot of guys like the 736 but I've never felt the need for the more powerful rod. With the 735, I get a little softer/more responsive tip. Easier to skip & pitch the hollowbelly's IMO. It is also easier to walk ...

Re: Dobyns rod help

You'll find the Dobyns 3 power is very similar the Powell & GLoomis MBR series 3 power rods. Notice on the GLoomis, I specifically used the MBR series. The Dobyns Champion & Sierra series sticks have a fast action. If we were to compare the Champion 703C or Sierra 703C to a GLoomis BCR853 (an x-fast...

Re: Are these Cranking rods similar? (Dobyns & St. Croix)

It's been a while since I fished that St Croix in the Legend Tournament Bass. IIRC it was called the Big Cranker back then. That was at least on generation/update ago. My memory is that the power is very similar to the Dobyns 705CB. I do feel that the St Croix does have a bit more parabolic action.
