Re: My hunk of junk kayak

That seat mod is actually pretty great! I don't fish a kayak anymore because of a bad back. I can do a couple hours, but that's all.

Re: Why do people fish such heavy breaking strain lines when targeting bass?

Yes, bass dive deep into structure when you stick them. They are almost invariably around and in heavy cover also, which is another good reason to use heavy line, due to potential damage from rocks, trees and stumps. Bass also jump and will often surge at the boat when you try to get them out. Howev...

Re: Rod life expectancy

My dad still has and uses rods that are 30+ years old. I have them re-wrapped with new guides as the factory wraps go bad. I told him there are modern, inexpensive rods that outperform those blanks, but he is old school, I guess.

Re: Ultimate frog blank

This may sound like a strange recommendation, but the MHX Elite Pro blanks are nice and light, with quick tips and nice, solid backbones. The 6'10" heavy would do nicely, I think, especially if you are gonna build it. https://www.fishmhx.com/collections/elite-pro/products/mhx-610-heavy-elite-pro-rod...

Re: Ultimate frog blank

First, a few questions to help zero in....Do you prefer a longer or shorter rod? I love my 6-10 rod, as its much easier to walk a frog with.
Also, will you primarily be fishing thick mats or more sparse cover? I'm assuming thick cover, since you're fishing the Delta.

Re: So what is the point of the Micro Module Gears outside of marketing?

I agree regarding the old HEG gearing; The Curado 200E and achronarch 200D reels were smooth and long-term durable. Ironically enough, one of the smoothest reels I ever owned was a Zillion PA. Those 4.9 gear teeth were very coarse/large, but that reel was mind-blowing smooth, smoother than anything ...

Re: HELP Broken Rod Trigger

I had that happen on an old American Rodsmiths rod back in the day. I used a dremel to shape the tip of the trigger to a smooth/usable shape. This left the trigger a little shorter, but it was still comfortable. I think that rod is still in my barn somewhere lol!

Re: bfs reel recommendations

First off, welcome to the forum. A little more info on how you fish would be helpful. What lure weights will you use with the second reel? Will you be making short casts in tight cover like small creeks? Thank you very much. I plan on fishing trout streams and small bass ponds with both of them. I ...

I have 5 or 6 Shimano limited edition V-Rods with gold cermets. They have been sitting for about15 years now.

Re: Zillion sv TW 1000

My Alphas SV TW has a paint bubble on the palm plate. I halfway expect that with magnesium reels, but not the plastic palm plate on an aluminum framed reel. I was a bit disappointed tbh, though it hasn't flaked or peeled at the bubble as of now.

I actually thought it was one of Shimano's better looking reels myself. Take that with a grain of salt though, since I'm a Daiwa guy lol!

So does this mean that the spool from a Zillion 10.0 will fit?
No, it has a 1016 size spool.

Re: To Spiral Or Not to Spiral... what is your preference?

For me, anything less than medium power and fast action gets spiral wrapped. The last 2 custom rods I've had built have been spiraled. One is a 6' light power blank, the other is a 6-6 ML blank. Maybe its just me, but I think anything that bends deeply should have the guides transition to the botto...

Reel: original Alphas 103, the purple people eater. Rod: MB Slantbridge Jota Bucket list: MB Lin 10 Black Jungle Fantasy reel: Daiwa Z1016XH. I would be fine with or without the T-Wing, but couldn't do without the Magforce 3D on said reel. If not that, then reintroduce the TD-Z with higher gear rati...
