Re: Spinning Reel Advise

What rod power and length are you using now, or plan on getting? I can make suggestions better with knowing that.

Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty

Contact baits I reel with my left so my dominant hand is controlling the rod.

Burning baits, I reel with my right hand, so my dominant is controlling the reel

Re: Steez CT SV strength

I use my Alphas CT for steelhead frequently, spooled with 20lb Power Pro and an 8lb Big Game leader, it works great. Most of the fish are from Huron and Erie, weighing 5 to 10lb with a few a little bigger. I typically throw #3 Mepps, 2/5 Little Cleo's, and 3/16 Hot n Tots. Nothing to really worry a...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Fishing for large salmon in slow-flowing danish streams can test you reel. Maybe - just maybe - I would consider a Steez CT in some situations, eg far upstream. Fishing for large salmon in fast-flowing norwegian rivers can demolish your reel. Fish and water ripping at your line can be brutal. There...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

I’m looking at building a rod for stream steelhead and have my eye on this reel. Mostly using small spinners, cranks, and light floats. The stream feeds Lake Michigan and is only 30 feet or so wide. Line capacity isn’t a concern for me. My concern is could this reel handle a salmon that hits, while...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

I tried Steez CT with steelhead (seatrout) fishing. Line capasity is too low. With St. Croix 5SC90MHF you can easily cast all line out with 27g lure. I was using 0,17mm braid which is little bit too thin imo. How many meters of .17 braid did you get on to the reel? You are correct, I wouldn’t want ...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Alphas and steez ct have plenty capacity for bass, but I would not try it for steelhead. They are close quarter reels with fast spool startup for pin point target casting. That’s what I’m after, pin point accuracy with my plugs and spinners in close quarters. I’m making short casts near wood and un...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Caught this brown yesterday using a Steez CT. I had something on bigger than that. It ripped some line off the reel, and I tried thumbing the spool, but I lost it to a fallen tree on the side of the river. I didn't have my drag extra tight, since the jerkbaits I use have light wire hooks. I've brou...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Not sure how it would fair for such a large drag taking fish. It has the audible drag so you can hear the fish taking drag like a spinning reel. However I am not sure how much stopping power the reel has? I would look at doing a drag upgrade to Carbontex to see if that can add a few more lbs of dra...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Steez ct sv is super nice reel. I don't own one but I have tested it. I own Alphas ct, which is in my opinion perfect reel for power finesse. In these videos there's KTF spool in it because I use it for Finesse fishing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GwZUmK0ji4&list=PLlfiM2RvR4zNSqLv2h2KHAF-GodqP...

Re: Steez CT SV strength

Short casting, rickety thumb bar, plastic feel, and for the desired application also limited line capacity. [/quote] Does the Steez feel like plastic? I was under the assumption that it was a solid reel, being a flagship model. I haven’t owned a Daiwa in 30 years, so I’m not familiar with them. Doe...

Re: Why do we care about guide insert?

Definitely practical with those Z guides and not having guides wrap up line. Especially in a kayak

Wow! I complain when my power wrapper acts up, and this guy hand built a masterpiece by hand!

I believe it’s Blue Dunn, too. Post a pic when you are done and what thread you used, will possibly be helpful for others in the future!

Re: Kayak Box

I’m using the Flambeau Tuff Crate. Was able to grab it for $50, and is well worth that. I was going to build a custom milk crate setup, until I came across the Tuff Crate. I was money ahead after I priced out new milk crates shipped.
