I've done well with them on small rivers for smallies, I gotta give them another go.

I was smallie fishing a river in Northern IL(where I am) and I saw a smallie chase a small bluegill onto a bank. The smallie then beached itself to get the bluegill....I love smallies!

I'm thinking about getting one of these for lighter stuff and smallie wade fishing. Match it up with my Chronarch 51mg, it'll be a light rig but will it be useful?

or you could go modern enthusiast and get a Sage with a Van Stahl(though I don't find Van Stahl reels attractive myself). I think the set up should be appropriate for what it's use will be.

the ultimate fly fishing enthusiast would look much more muted, say a House of Hardy reel on a cane rod, for modern possibly a Brackett era Winston, for vintage perhaps a Paul Young or Payne. You should really just make your own,
