Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
I knew about the spool difference . I think it does help with casting . One thing to watch for , especially when windy, is to make sure the line is tight before retrieving. I close the bail manually, but the wind will blow a loop in your line and you'll wind up with a mess on that next cast. That 15...

Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
Thanks , I've been trying upload a picture of one of the nicer gills and finally got it to work . Most of the LM's were between 10-13" , fun size on a moderate action UL . I like the balance of the 1500 on the five footers . I actually can't feel the extra weight of the 1500 over a 500 . Shimano may...

Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
Today I switched the 1500 Daiwa Lagalis to my 5' St. Croix Premier UL rod . Loaded up with 4# Hi-Vis P-Line , I was throwing shortened Slider grubs on a 1/32nd bullet head jig . It stole the show today . No monsters were caught but in four hours I caught 17 LM bass, 14 bluegills, and 3 Crappie . Mos...

Re: Berkley C- Series (Crappie rods) for American Shad
I'm not familiar with the Berkley C rods . But I own a 9' St Croix Triumph Light Steelhead Rod I bet would work for you . They also make a 10' UL version that's a moderate action . I bought the 9' to fish for bluegills from shore throwing 1/80th jigs with a weighted float . Thinking the farther I co...

Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
I got to fish the Daiwa Fuego 2000 today for about an hour and a half . I'm impressed with it . Very smooth and I love the handle . I wasn't sure if I would even like it . I've always used my left hand index finger to retrieve lure . Just developed over the years and now my first two fingers and knu...

Re: Daiwa RG2000H-AB Spinning Reel for Ultralight Fishing
If the SS700 had an anti-reverse that didn't have play in it , I'd give one a try . The best spinning reel I own is my Daiwa Fuego 1000A . Absolutely the smoothest out of the box reel I've ever owned . And it came with an extra aluminum spool . I too enjoy trying out new tackle . I wondering if ther...

Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
IMO , the smaller Daiwa reels are not engineered or built as good as the larger reels . They work , but they just feel cheap . Even the newest 2000 Crossfire feels like a sturdier and better built reel. The newest Shimano Sahara 1000 I returned was bigger than the 1500/2000 Daiwas except for the Cro...

Re: Daiwa RG2000H-AB Spinning Reel for Ultralight Fishing
I'm finding some of Diawa 2000 size reels are similiar in size to Shimano 1000's. Weights are a little over an ounce difference for most models . Lately I've been trying a few of the Daiwa 1500 and 2000's and I'm finding they balance some of my rods better than the smaller reels. I've bank fished on...

Re: Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
Nice catch, great that the custom rod did so well. The Legalis is a very decent reel too. Would be nice if they made a 1000 size too in that model line though. Thanks , I've in my LM fishing state of mind as of late . I seem to go through phases where I'll concentrate on panfish and then I get gree...

Broke-in my new Custom UL Rod
I took my new custom rod out for a test today . Paired with a Daiwa Legalis 1500 reel and 4# P-Line . I had just tied on a 1/32 jig with a 3" Stick-O worm in PBJ , rigged wacky style . My second cast I felt a thump and set the hook . This is my largest so far this year . I estimate around 3-3 1/2 lb...

Re: Rod for light (1/64th ounce) jigs
A rod that can truly throw 1/64th will never be a "fast" rod... it has to flex to throw the lure and it you are going to have to use light line which will require flex in the rod to protect the line. I think we have a winner . I feel the rod can't be too long or it'll be too much of a noodle and ro...

Re: Shimano 500 reels
Took both Sienna's back to Walmart today . The first one I attempted to use was hard to wind , so I tried breaking it in and got it OK , but still not good enough . I decided I'd keep it for parts . Took the other one out , spooled it up and took it fishing this afternoon. It was easier to wind than...

Re: Shimano 500 reels
Ive found two more Sienna 500 reels locally . Before I buy them up to put up for spares , I found a contact site for Shimano fishing and have sent them an inquiry as to whether they have anything in the future to replace the 500 series reels . We'll see if I get an answer and what they have to say ...

Re: Shimano 500 reels
Never got a reply from Shimano . I was at a local Walmart this afternoon , "the" local Walmart where I had seen the two Sienna 500's , and they were still there . That meant only one thing had to happen . It was meant for me to own them . After finding a worker to unlock them , they came home with m...
