Re: Zillion 8.5 Speed: Mistake?
The ratio that each person likes is fairly subjective. Not all of us are the same. Some people are just slower and some are faster. IPT can be extremely important when you are trying to move fish away from cover quickly or you are trying to keep your bait at an exact depth. None of this matters if y...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I bought the red Amo spool for the TD Zillion (36mm). It has the fixed inductor and it is way too fast for normal use. You can crank down the cast control cap, but it is still wild and the added resistance is annoying. You might be able to use really light weights with it, but I didn't buy it for th...

Re: Iovino phasing out?
I have noticed they do bleed, I have them all separated by color in storage. From what I heard the girl pouring his plastics had a close family member with serious health problems, hopefully he finds and can train someone else to take over the business. I don't think that there is a lot of money in...

Re: Iovino phasing out?
Don is probably at the age where he doesn't have the energy to be the constant salesman anymore. He is pretty easy to contact. I used to order directly from him. I also used to take the bulk Dezyner plastics that Don would sell to the Turner's Outdoorsman that I worked at and package them in 10 bags...

What's the glove for? The latex or nitrile gloves help keep your hands dry and warm in the winter. I would assume that is why you see them. You will sometimes see tour pros like Skeet Reese and Stephen Browning using them in the winter. This is an old trick that us tournament fisherman have been us...

Re: Smoothest gear grease.
If you want the least resistance, use the lightest grease on the gears and light oil on all of the bearings. Daiwa 104 grease is one of the lightest greases. The SLPWorks shop and a lot of JDM BFS guys use it. The heavier the grease, the more resistance, but I think most of us know that the heavier ...

Re: 7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?
If you cut the butt and keep the handle length the same you shorten the working length so the deflection and measured power are slightly less. Trim butt by 2", so working length is 2" shorter, deflection distance is 2/3" shorter. You can measure the power without cutting by moving the front support...

Re: UL Topwater Fishing
I like these classic plastics in the teeny size. They are either 1/10 or 1/8 oz. Walmart will carry them. That pop r is a fun bait and gets bit by everything. Gills love them. I catch way more on it than my Baby PopX. That little Wee R crank is a fun one too. That's a nostalgia shallow crank for me...

Re: UL Topwater Fishing
The Zara Spook Puppy has produced lots of smallmouth bass for me. It’s probably at the upper limit of BFS and weighs 1/4oz. The Puppy fishes well on a light casting/BFS setup. I've caught limits around 25lbs. on it when my home lake has a stable water level all summer and grass mats are able to dev...

Re: 7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?
MHX MB864XF 673 full length, 654 trim 2" from butt Thanks. I think that would work, but I think that I am going to cut down the NMB873.5. That blank has the exact type of tip that I am looking for. Am I correct in assuming that cutting the butt decreases the RDA slightly? If so, this would put this...

I think that you are right. I just don't know what blank that I want to trim. I just want something a little lighter in power than an 844.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 12:59 pmYou can expand your options if you're willing to trim a bit.

Re: 7' Medium Heavy + Fast Action blank?
My Phenix K2 715 is my frog rod. I feel it is a little heavier than all of my Loomis IMX 844's. It is really beefy. I'm surprised that is has an RDA of 655. I would think that it would be a little higher. So...I do have two different 715's in my database now that I look further down the list. One i...
