Re: Anyone find "The One"?

Call me crazy, but the 7'4" Envy Spinning rod may be as close to 'the one' as I have ever fished. We are talking about true versatility here, right? One rod to take with you if you had no idea what you were going to find in a new body of water? The tip is extremely light, and soft, but extra EXTRA f...

Re: Braid for Senkos?

I wonder if using an upsized circle hook would be advantageous if you must use braid, as mentioned, in heavy cover. (Although, there isn't much soft cover I wouldn't be comfortable throwing 15lb flouro with a good doubled over uni connection). This would allow you to softly pick up the slack when th...

Re: What is your best drop shot lure?

Finicky SM = wacky rigged crosstail shad. There is something about how it shimmies when you just wiggle it slightly that drive clear water sight fish crazy. Eating SM = Any bulkier options that have been mentioned before, like I-Shad, Shad Shape Worm, and locally on the Great Lakes, X-Zone Slammer (...

Re: Week of Bassin' (Opening Week Report)

We rocked 42 LM on LSC opener in the morning, and ground out 20 smallies in the afternoon. I don't know if we saw a fish under 2lbs the whole day, but nothing over 5 either. We couldn't stop commenting on the great average size for 62 fish. I found it mind blowing that after the crazy cold spring we...

Re: When to use Sunline Sniper vs. Shooter

I do everything with Sniper. From finesse to flipping 20lb test. Never have any phantom breakoffs or anything that I would chalk up to a lack of abrasion resistance. I would wager that Shooter is just going to be even better in those situations if you deal with a lot of docks/wood/rocks, which I don...

Re: Headbanger Lures

It's def a water wolf bait, but the concept seems to work in reality, and is so simple I can't believe it hasn't been thought of, or at least executed well before. A lot of gaudy paint and flash, but if you just look at the silhouette in the water, and imagine a nicely painted white belly/dark back ...

Re: too thick?

Depends what you are doing with I guess. I wouldn't do anything other than punch with the 80lb braid I have loaded on my Curado 201e. I know it's overkill, especially condisering I'll likely never see a double digit fish but I never have to worry about it. Ever. As far a specifically for that reel? ...

Re: Seaguar Smackdown

One day, casting many different small baits for smallies in ultra clear water on a 7' Steez ML spinning rod, a SIlver Stradic and long lengths of 6lb Suffix Flouro leader material. Cost me well over 100 dollars in lost baits on hooksets. It's a combo I have in regular use, no problems before of sinc...

Re: Braid for Senkos?

Braid has next to no slack line sensitivity. I can almost assure you that you are missing fish if you go weightless wacky on braid. I guess it all depends of how deep you fish them and how far you are casting, but if you are targeting spooky fish with long casts in anything over 4ft you won't really...

Re: Best dropshot rig...in the world?

I really like the foregrip and lockdown setup that Daiwa has on their Steez rods. The blank on mine leaves a little to desired at the MSRP which is a shame. As others above, DS to me is generally a vertical presentation in clear northern lakes for smallmouth that we graph and target directly. I have...
